Anyone ever get hit by a cop car or any other emergency vehicle? Always wondered how that plays out when they are at fault.

I had to look up "hooning."

"Hooning is a form of antisocial behavior that can include speeding, burnouts, and street racing"

I guess that means I was an antisocial hooner as a young person. I didn't feel antisocial. I just liked to drive fast and buy a lot of tires.

Three offences and they can send the car you are driving to the crusher, even if you don’t own it.

Australia things.
My mate would probably have been sent to court and they’d decide the fate of his licence, but it’s relatively easy to lose, or have your car seized if you’re accused of hooning or dangerous driving.
Guess it depends on the country. In the US a good lawyer can get you out of most everything except murder. Even then they can probably get you out of that too. Which is probably most of the problem we have here. People drive their vehicles like matchbox cars on the indy 500 with zero regard for what could happen. Just put the car back on the track with two fingers and try again. 😭

I backed into a cop once… I was helping push some people out of the snow, a snow plow came by and he asked if I’d back my truck up a bit…. Just bumped his push bar, absolutely no damage. His exact words were “there’s no damage to your truck? Please don’t make me fill out paperwork…”

There was no paperwork filled out and we went on our merry ways.
No good deed goes unpunished.

A friends daughter got t boned by a fed who ran a stop sign. No lights on or anything. This was over a year ago and she’s been in extreme pain such that she can’t work. She’s a real estate broker in Alexandria, Va. Nothing from the government so far.

One hit me with a nightstick once.

I watched from a 5th floor dorm window a bike cop catch his handlebar grip on the side of my Accord and fall into the side. I yelled at him out the window and went down but he didn't stick around.

I have heard first responders are not held responsible for accidents while performing their duty. The damages are settled by the victim's own insurance company unless negligence is proven.

My buddy struck a c h p cruiser. Critically injured but recovered. February 2017 Is the date of the accident. Case was Adjudicated and settlement paid last summer. Chp 100% at fault.

Bike was a harley dyna. Thrown 60 feet after impact. Streetglide on the right split right to avoid collision. I luckily was 1 mile away.

Local bus nicked the rubber wheel trim of the right front wheel area of the bus with the front drivers side bumper of my car. We were both stopped at a light and I did not move when the light turned because of the way that bus driver had positioned his bus. The local Pittsburgh bus company tried to get my insurance to pay for replacing that bus wheel well trim piece. I told my insurance not to pay. I was not moving and it was the bus that hit the front corner of my car ( 1985 Olds Delta 88 coupe, metal bumper, not damage at all ). I even told my insurance that if necessary I would testify in court that the bus hit my non moving car.

I guess my insurance did not pay, because I did not end up with an accident showing up on my insurance.

Years earlier, I heard of a case where a bus hit a car and the bus company went after the car owner for damages to the bus.

Early in my career, I was changing lanes and hit a car in my blindspot. Minor damage and no injuries, so State Police responded to the crash. I was cited for improper lane change and went to court, where I pled guilty. Judge amended the charge to negligent driving (no points) and imposed the $75 fine. I was required to pay the fine, not my dept. and my license reflected the at fault collision. My dept. did take care of all the damages to both vehicles. I'm human, like everyone else and make mistakes. But this does not mean that my job entitled me to any special privileges over anyone else.

100% accurate - qualified immunity. There's actually a ballot issue that's been approved by Ohio's AG (absolutely shocking that he didn't reject it 'cause he can....) to remove this from gov't employees.

This day and age, get a dashcam to deal with crooked drivers and cops.

Long long ago an officer crashed into my girlfriend and totaled an almost new Ranger. Officer lied about everything including lights and sirens. Witnesses backed her up while department circled the wagons.
No one should be suprised by these situations. Have a dash cam and make it public if the authorities ignore you (or your lawyer).

Way back in the 70's local cops pulled into my Parents driveway to "personally" hand me a citation for some sort of hijinks around town earlier in the day. I Had the car parked outside in front of the garage door.
They T boned it speeding into our driveway - on ice in the winter. He couldn't stop in time.

They yelled at me, "Why is your car not in your garage!" I dont completely recall what happened. I dont remember recovery problems. I think my agent handled it at the time as I was in good hands with ALLSTATE - before they stopped writing policy in that state IIRC

I agree and have one but what would it show her being hit from the side? Don't know if she had one.

Never got any money out of PD.
Nowadays the lawyer can FOIA the dash cam video to see what happened. Or anyone can request it for that matter.

I've always had the opinion that we need cameras on all four sides. Usually the dash cam only shows half the story as the end result is usually off to the side of the vehicle.

Not me over here on my 3rd set of tires on the truck in 60k miles 😏

I have decided SR-A’s and KO2’s suck and the Yokohama Geolandar G015 will forever reign supreme.
