Parking lot scratch. Ouch!

I would have my doubts that someone that hit it would duct tape the mirror back on. Sure it isn’t an excuse made out of embarrassment? Sure… some vandals did that… not the concrete fixture on the way out…
Californians are nice

There were no security cameras; he asked security. This occured at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where he works.
There was no note left on the car.
The mirror was hanging; he taped the mirror up so he could drive the car.
The TSX was in excellent condition prior to this damage. We got it from the local Mercedes dealership.

Please keep your insults to yourself; my friend is not a liar. When he makes a mistake, he promptly admits it.

No insults just questions that need answers.

Look for any material or color left behind. There HAS to be shared materials.

Think height. Must have been something tallish.

Think angles. Start and end.

You can't just post pictures and not expect feedback and LOTS of questions.

What do you see?

My friend was called a liar. That's an insult. If he hit a pole or whatever he would say so, not make up a story.
This happened last Thursday when he was at work.
I believe I answered questions about the taped mirror.

I do not know if he looked around for debris; I know he talked with security.
He has an appointment on Monday with the body shop AAA advised him to go to.

Yes there were insults thrown and no excuses, but I meant my posts have not included insults. That said INTERNET. THICK SKIN.

Not debris around but buried and shared in metal, paint and plastics.

I apologize if my post was taken too seriously, I find most subjects should be dealt with while having a good sense of humor to avoid the frustration of it.
Obviously he didn’t hit a yellow pole or there would be yellow paint to coincide, my MIL’s Buick has a new fender because of this very thing.
The damage is very consistent with drifting over into something and not being able to get off of it before traveling the entire length of the car. Now if he drifted into something or something drifted into him is the question that only he can answer, and it seems that he has given you his answer.
The photos of the damage are why everyone is questioning his explanation to you, the damage is just really inconsistent with being hit while parked.

Does he need help fixing a garage door frame or exterior wall at his place as well?

I take back my previous statement.

I'm starting to think this was indeed another vehicle and not a stationary object, but it also could have happened while the vehicle was moving.

Looking at the right rear wheel, unless the damage is old, it appears there is a rubber / dark transfer on the spokes. This is consistent with another vehicles tire rubbing up against it. I would have to see the missing part of the wheel picture to see if the rubber transfer goes around the wheel and an up-close image to see if there is and indication of rotation to the marks or scratches parallel to the damage. If the picture was indeed taken as the vehicle sits right after the impact, before it moved, then this could offer a lot of information.

The white and possibly chalky paint transfer indicates to me either a white painted or vinyl wrapped box truck (U-Haul?) or work van due to the tall flat nature of their bodies.

Certainly I am not calling your friend a liar but as @Shel_B stated, some of us might not notice these events for a variety of reasons like busy surroundings and noise.

The title of this thread says “Parking Lot Scratch” but those pictures show a lot more than a scratch.

What happened will not be known since this facility in such a high tech region doesn’t have cameras in their parking lot ???

My apologies. Shouldn't have posted "your friend has no problem lying to you." And if that's my belief, I should keep it to myself. Again, sorry Jeff.

Is the black on the spokes part of the damage?
No, brake dust. I was gonna do a brake service next week, throughly clean the wheels and deal with the curb rash somewhat.
You might notice the front bumper is not aligned properly; another parkling lot curb issue. A friend of his did this for him... Pulled up to close; these cars are low; damamge is done when backing up. Pulls the bumper right outta the connectors. I have seen both sides ripped out due to a more extreme case.

I cant figure out how that damage could be induced by another passenger car.

Possibly a utility body truck - something flat sided. Other wise it looks like a scrap against a cement bollard

Look at the scratch pattern on the rear door. Note how it is rounded right at the hinge edge yet the front door is scraped straight.

Perhaps a truck with big tires?
