Oversize Wix filter # for Acura 3.2L V6?

Car is an '03 Acura 3.2 TL.

I've seen some references to an s2000 filter that's oversized, but I like the Napa Gold (wix) filters (Can't get PureOne's in Canada to save my life).

Anybody figured out the right oversized filter that has the correct bypass valve pressure etc. (in other words, does more than just spins on)?

I'd appreciate it!

Give Big O Dave a PM and ask him for all the wix equivalents for the 51334 for thread and gasket size.
 
The largest filter that is a substitute for the 51334 (the OEM size) is the 51568. There are larger filters with the same thread pitch, but this is the largest that has the same gasket size. Here are the specs for each (note that the bypass PSID for the 51568 is higher than for the 51334):

The similarly spec'd 51344 is an oversized option for the 51334.

Another filter is the 51626. It'll work on some engines, and leak on others because of the larger diameter and gasket overhang. If the engine oil filter mount base has enough 'diameter', give it a try.

Now how important is that bypass valve setting. I notice the stock one calls for 11psi, and the oversized one is 16 psi.

I live in a cold climate, and am wondering whether it would be best to stick with the lower bypass valve setting.

It appears that the 51344 is the best fit for you... even though the gasket size is slightly different from the OEM size, it has the same bypass PSID, and that's probably more important.

It appears that Acura owners are using the 51344 without leaks due to a gasket misfit, so I'd use that.

The engine has 36k miles and has, based on what I have learned here, had too many oil changes (M1 0w-20 every 3k miles religiously). On that basis, I suspect the engine is in very good shape, and would therefore make plenty of oil pressure.

I am going to try the bigger filter recommended here!

Actually, in a "cold" scenario, the filter should come out of bypass sooner as the oil warms up.
I'd have no problem with a higher bypass pressure on a newer engine (within reason).
IF you had an engine that was so worn, that it had trouble making 16 PSI, then you would certainly have cause for concern.
A new engine should EASILY be good for 40+ PSI.

As a side note, how accurate are the BP ratings.
BP springs aren't really the "state of the art" technology. I'd venture to guess it varies "several" PSI between 0C and 100C temps.
