I think he's certified. No, wait.I mean certifiable.
I wouldn't rely on any service that is not trackable nowadays as I have seen some very shady fellows in USPS/UPS/FedEx.
Once my employer lost a $20k check and have to call the customer to stop it, then our mailbox was broken into, then I got my neighbor's playboy for a few issues (yeah, bring it on), and they got my PC magazines (fair trade huh?).
Online payment is the only way to go now, the onlything USPS is good for is shipping out heavy and cheap stuff (like textbooks) on media mail that you don't care about paying high cost for shipping and can afford to lose it.

Even minimum wage, barely competant folks can aim pretty well...
I am at the point where all bills are e-pay through my bank. I WAS at the point where any bill via USPS was sent with delivery confirmation. Most companies say to mail 7-10 days before the due date. I at least had a leg to stand on with the credit card folks because I had proof it took 12 days from Saint Louis to Chicago. BTW, DHL, (formerly Airborne Express) has some of the most reasonable rates, and IMO, good customer service to boot. YMMV, as always.

That same thing happend to me, but with an installment loan payment. And it happened 2 months in a row. I have been paying on this loan for almost 4 years, have never been late, but they still didn't show me any mercy. I had to pay a $15 fee to have the money instantly transferred from my checking account at another bank to cover the loan payment. Each payment was mailed from the same post office. After the 2nd time my payment mysteriously vanished, I stopped mailing it from that office and haven't had a problem since.
The workers at my local PO seem to be as disgusted about the situation as the rest of us. They're the ones that have to try and make it right, file all the loss claims, etc. They're not happy either.
