I ordered an item from bestbuy.com they offered free next day delivery so I decided to not drive 45min round trip.
(didnt know it was door dash delivery)
Today I see its delayed until tomorrow.
So I check the tracking and
its "ready for shipment" 500 miles away from me.

And Doordash says "awaiting shipment"

I doubt door dash is driving it 500miles and 2 states to me.. so I call bestbuy.
after 15min battling AI I get to a guy from india whose best suggestion is to call back tomorrow.

No one can tell me how they plan on getting it to DD In akron. apparently its awaiting pickup in Bensonville IL
for DD to deliver in Akron Ohio. What a Cluster#### all because I didnt want to drive 45min round trip yesterday since they
offered free next day delivery.

There likely shipping it to a store or local warehouse and will deliver from there.
9 local stores have it in stock as well as the regional fulfillment center in brecksville (30min away)

Even if by some miracle it does move from IL tonight (hoping it is so)
its an epic failure to ship one from IL when 9 local stores are in stock and you have
same day and next day delivery available.

This is 3rd closest local store about 20min away

Thing is, if you order online they may tell the vendor to ship it with their label directly to you instead of to their warehouse first then to you to save a leg.

If you want it real fast then you probably have to do Amazon Prime. Even then it may not come the next day.

Instead it says its arriving today from bestbuy.com but its stuck in IL according to doordash

This is the exact option I picked last night although yesterday they had an additional same day delivery option for 9.99 as well

You can't assume anything when you order an item to be shipped. Even if your assumptions are logical.

Yeah I made the assumption that you know next day is never next day in shipping. I misinterpreted.

Man I made that mistake with Newegg. Had to order my boss a new laptop in the middle of the lockdown, so I got one via a newegg third party seller with "next-day-shipping". A day goes by and it still hasn't shipped so I call to figure what's going on. I didn't know this at the time but sellers would immediately put the order as "waiting for carrier" so you can't do an easy refund request without a restock fee and newegg support couldn't do anything either. It finally arrived two weeks later but by that time I already ordered a different one

On topic, since it's already at Bensenville let's hope it's door dash to the UPS or FedEx, then from ORD via overnight air to you.

They definitely dropped the ball on this.

Also, unless it’s FedEx, UPS or USPS, I often find those shipment trackers “iffy” at best.

Not uncommon to wait for products showing two states away, that arrive on my doorstep later that same day.

My last Best Buy online order also went sideways...

Needed two of an item. The closest store had one, one a bit further away had 2. I ordered the two from the further away store for in-store pickup.

Get my notification that the store I picked had one ready for pickup, and the other would be ready soon. I went and picked up the one since I was in the neighborhood.

The other shifted to a next day delivery due to the inconvenience. It then sat in that status for over a week, and then they cancelled it.

Meantime, the nearby store still had one in stock, as did multiple other locations in the area... I ended up buying it somewhere else due to my frustration....

This is why Amazon is taking out companies like Best Buy. I had a similar experience with Lowes. It took 4 different people in management positions to figure out that the stuff I ordered was an item they carried and was in fact sent to the store.

If I order from Best Buy Online, I usually do the pick up in store option and just drive over there. The chances of things going wrong drop off exponentially.

Our son has done online orders with delivery many times with no issues. I did it a few months ago with a Macbook and it arrived same-day. They use a delivery/courier service related to UPS, I think, but the drivers use their personal vehicles.

Best Buy has really went downhill in the last decade. They used to be a premier store for buying electronics. Last time I went in looking for mesh router set, they had a very poor selection, no inventory for some items, and a somewhat obsolete selection. I find myself buying from Best Buy less often, and I think others are doing likewise. The store is pretty empty of customers lately.

I needed a new iPhone battery and since they’re an authorized Apple services, and also much closer to me than an Apple Store, I figured I’d give them a shot.

I wanted to see if the battery was in stock, or needed to be ordered…so I tried giving them a call.

The AI had no idea what I was asking, after about 15 mins I finally got thru to an agent…who was across the country and not in any way affiliated with Apple repairs.

So he transferred me right back to the AI hole I thought I had just escaped from…and I went to the Apple Store after all.

Whenever I order something from either Walmart or elsewhere and its supposed to deliver "same day" its about 50/50. I believe in my case its where I live. I am in the city zip code, but I am right on the edge way, way out of town. I presume the algo looks at the zip and says sure, then they try to get driver and they say no thanks. Or the delivery platforms waits until it has a bunch of orders in the area and then can consolidate and secure a ride.

Amazon is the same, but they usually show up early the next day. I assume they do the same, wait until they have enough orders to fill a van and send it our way.

I work in purchasing and we quit doing business with Best Buy they are so bad. With a business account you dont get many of the deals, quantity limitations the public dont get and they wont match their own price on Amazon. Customer service also stinks. They are asking to go the way of Sears and K Mart
