Long story short... Had a Scion xB since 2007 and was going to drive it into the ground... Was at about 150K, paid off for years, when I was rear ended and totaled it. Bent frame, no chance at saving it. Thankfully, no injuries to all involved (driver who hit me had his 90 year old grandmother as a passenger, he got distracted...). I ended up going into someone in front of me and all that fun stuff.

I needed a car quick for work, so I ended up with a 2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid SE (my brother works at Toyota at a sales manager, was able to get me a great lease and all that jazz). Unfortunately, even before my xB was totaled, I was looking for my next car. But I really, seriously, didn't like much of anything being offered by anyone. So I just stuck with the trusty xB!

Anyway, as nice as the Camry is, I have no intention to keep it once the lease is over, or I trade it in for something else. About six weeks ago, I decided to check out some of the only cars that really interested me, but I never really considered due to practicality... The Camaro and Mustang.

Started looking for used, so I went to see a few Camaro's (SS and 2SS) nearby to test drive. First, was the SS and I was kind of in awe after my first drive with it. The sound, the power, how it handled around corners, it was so planted and felt so right. The cabin was a shock at first, being so cockpit like, but I really came to dig that, quick. The xB had a quirky, dark interior... I loved it. This one amps it up even more. It has some hefty blind spots, but I am a super aware driver with what's around me and with properly adjusted mirrors and simply paying attention, no issue.

A week later, found a 2019 Mustang 5.0 available to drive, so off we went. The cabin was way brighter, far more "normal". While the engine and all felt great, I just really actually hated the interior. There is nothing special about it, no character. Boring. But the car itself was still great otherwise, but the Camaro still felt more impressive tome, especially relative to the suspension, the deep rumble of that V8 and NPP exhaust, exterior appearance, interior... I made an appointment to drive another Camaro (used 2SS) immediately after our mustang drive, so I was able to test them back-to-back and check out the 2SS trim.

Well, after a thirty minute drive in the 2SS, that was it. This is the car I want, the trim I want. Adding the blind spot monitoring, ventilated leather seats and the other upgrades from the SS, plus everything else I love about the Camaro. I was sold... Except, the sunroof. The SS driven had no sunroof and I had equivalent headroom as my Camry. I am 6'5" mind you, so that is pretty important. Adding a sunroof in the Camaro cuts an inch or two from my available headspace, so while my head wasn't exactly hitting it, it was really, really close and over some bumps and such, I was brushing up against it. So that led me to my one requirement, no sunroof.

Thing is, most people love sunroofs. I never been a fan, but with the other options I require (NPP dual mode exhaust and magnetic ride control), not a single used or new one exists in the US. Literally. The ones that do, have sunroofs.

So basically, I am left to order one in. My brother contacted one of his manager friends at a Chevy dealership and currently wrapping up everything on my order. Should be in within the next few days. They will be taking over my remaining lease/buyout free and clear, so I won't owe anything to trade that in early. The lease was up October of 2021.

2020/2021 Camaro 2SS in black, jet black interior, black wheels, NPP exhaust, magnetic ride control, front fascia extension and cold air intake. Debating on red calipers or not (or leaving dark grey stock), but all else is set to go! As much as I like the blue they offer, and white isn't bad, black has always been my go-to. Plenty of experience detailing my xB which was black, so I know what I am up for care wise. This car won't be driven in winter though and only taken out when weather is decent for the most part, so it won't be as much upkeep.

Looks like the wait will be about 8-10 weeks, depending on what happens with COVID, shutdowns, etc... But I am looking forward to some fall drives through the park systems here once it gets delivered! In the winter, we have a 2010 Mazda 3 for that... Which will become our new beater when the girlfriend picks out something next Spring for herself (she surprisingly is interested in the Challenger...), so we will be scanning for some used inventory come Spring and test driving to see if she likes it.

Really excited though. I finally found something that I really like, inside and out. It's not the most practical, but whatever. I love to drive and this excites me... Even the girlfriend/wifey is excited for it!

I agree, I would get one without the sunroof also.
The mohawk roof looks so much cooler than having a plain flat roof with a sunroof while also missing out on the headroom.

Which transmission are you getting?

Awesome, congrats.

At 6', I've had no real problems with visibility, certainly nothing more than my Corvette. A friend is 5'8" and he's like a little kid in a bathtub. As high as the doors are, most people who bring up visibility have never even sat in one, let alone driven one, and are just regurgitating what they read on the internet.

Having had some seat time in the Camaro, both the manual trans and 10-speed auto are great powertrains. It'll make for an entertaining daily ride.

I'd have mine in white. I love the contrast with the dark/clear tailights.

I've test drove several 6th gen Camaros, The visibility doesn't really bother me. Good thing they got rid of the 8L90E.....That thing is a problem waiting to happen.

I would not want a sun roof , either . But , black , in the south ? No way . Hope it has a very powerful A/C .

Best of luck to you . :)

I don't live in the south, I am in the midwest. Either way, no issue with the AC when tested on a 90 degree day. It was black, too.

As far as transmission, it will be the 10 speed AT.

White was my second color option, it looks amazing with the smoked tails and dark wheels and accents. But, black just won me over. White is so nice for keeping clean... My camry is super white, love how easy it is, compared to black especially.

Thanks everyone! Will keep updated on progress/delivery for sure.

Was looking at camaro too a few months ago tempted to get 6-speed lt1, just not a really a fan of the look, but a brand new v8 for under 35k before any discounts is real enticing.

You might consider installing clear paint protection film in front of the rear tires as rocks thrown up by the front tires will chip that area really quickly. They make precut panels specifically for that purpose and location.

Good on you! That being said I rented a 2020 Eco boost Stang the end of April to drive home from Utah to Denver. I hit snow in Vail so I turned on rain/snow mode and drove home thru snow plowed and to 4” deep averaging 35 mph passing other rear wheel drive cars. Now I drove rear wheel drive for 26 years in the Sierras so that helped but I think 70 miles in Colorado snow with summer tires is impressive.

naturally aspirated american V-8 power! is great, mine would be a manual as ALL my rides were except a few "classic" older daily drivers were until gas went NUTS. needing traction with decent power i tried a 2001 WRX tin can + one drive in a solid VW lead me to a 2001 jetta wolfsburg 1.8T 5 spd manual 150 hp stock + 262 tq + after a short learning curve + a few $$$ i was enjoying 300 ft lb + 275 hp with a 5 thou dent in my bank account with 2 thou going to a Quaife front torque biasing differential that put power to both front wheels to control torque steer. if not needing to go in the snow as well as stop + stop spending a hundred weekly on gas, using 4 snow tyres in the Pa winters i would have opted an american V-8 with a manual! good luck + enjoy your new ride!! as much as i love the classics looks + power modern "hot rods" that go as well as stop better + their great handling is a no brainer if you can afford it. been eyeing C-6 Vettes on the net as they are a great value except the crappy interiors, but i am enjoying my 2001 TT 225Q roadster, 300 hp + torque with goog handling + braking with a decent 25mpg average. fun cars are costly but worth it IMO!!

Great car for the money.

So are the 460 horsepower Mustang GT with 10 speed auto trans. These cars are capable of 11.90s completely stock. ;)

I came very close to buying the LT1 6 speed model for about 31k, but i hesitated for a few days and it sold. Then camaros got super hard to find. It was a bit hard to get in and out of compared to the Golf platform i went back to. Impractical to daily drive with hardly any cargo space, low visibility, ect. But that powertrain makes you forget about all those minor details. I still want to get one in a year or two but i think i'l hang onto the Alltrack as it is a very good daily drive. The V8 camaro is one you want to own before they possibly get discontinued for another crossover.

The ZL-1 or a Corvette would be great but they are more money. You will love the Camaro SS and they really do have plenty of power. I would put the red stripe package on it but I think that is dealer installed. Congrats on the new Camaro SS you will love it. The LS motors run forever if properly maintained.

Little optimistic. It is no faster than the Camero. Any difference in performance is not worth a mention, it comes down to which one looks better to the person buying it and possibly price.

Camero sounds great! I understand the Chevy love, but I went 2016 Chevy SS Sport sedan. Got the adjustable exhaust, got the mag ride shocks, got the 415 HP LS3, but also got 4doors, visability in all directions, cavernous trunk, full size spare, 6sp manual and NO sun roof.
Just did a 1800 mile road trip and ended with 24.4MPG. A great trip car!

I wish i had the money to buy one of those when they were still brand new and 20% off. Now they are 3 years old and about the same price used.
I'd love to see a new model SS with the direct injected 6.2. it would be perfect. The CTS-V is a little much, but a lighter 4 door all motor V8 RWD would really be sweet.
