It's funny, in pictures the Mustang looks a lot tidier in proportions than the Camaro. But when you're standing next to both, they're both just giant and sort of ungainly, in my opinion.
Of course the Challenger is still the winner in the ungainly category.

I don't understand why they placed the Z28 model above the SS model when the SS was always above the Z28 in years past.
Should only be base V6, Z28, and SS models, in my opinion, with the Z28 having the ZL1 content and limited production.
In any event, I pass.

Well about the only time I'd give the nod for styling to the Mustang is the current or really '10-'13, and that's only because the '09-'13 Camaro is not bad but overstyled with the retro thing. The Mustang's front looks like a fish on a hook you just caught

Other than that, Mustang's always looked pretty unexciting if not boring and ungainly. Maybe the late 60's to 70's 1st gen model looked good too. Other than that the Camaro (and Firebird) styling over the years wins by a landslide imo.

The sales figures on the new gen camaro show how the general public feels. It sells like hotcakes without discounts. Plus owners have reported a great deal of positive feedback about its daily utility being quite good, it's a great car.
There's a great deal of engineering expertise in the hi-po GM offerings that is simply not present in the Stangs. Subtleties of power delivery and chassis control that simply are not in the GT500. Sure, the GT500 is powerful and wins all the straight line races, but when there's cornering and stopping as well... Camaro wins.

Among the many engineering subtleties that GM does not publicize are the clutch engagement. It's positively voodoo the way the ZL1 and the ZR1 can both somehow cushion driveline shock during shifts, and this is a significant refinement on the street as well as the track.
IMHO the Camaro Hi Po models are a much sweeter car to take to the track or enjoy a drive.

Real road course racers I know who actually go to the tracks report quite differently.
My bud Pat races a nearly stock SRT8 on street rubber and passes race prepped Mustangs on racing tires at Callabogie (no idea how to spell that!) all the time. Note that I pass my real estate buds M3 UNDER BRAKING at over 150 mph at Homestead as we enter the infield track coming off the big oval. Our cars simply transition better, they are not more powerful.
And the ZL1 handily beat the GT500 at VIR (a track that rewards high powered cars usually) despite a HUGE power disadvantage.
The GT500 is hugely powered, and dynamically very entertaining. It just lacks the refinement many of us enjoy.

The Boss 302 Laguna Seca was actually quicker at C&D's Lightning Lap than the GT500. The Boss is a balanced performance car...the GT500 is an overpowered pig.
(Also note: it's just short of 3900lbs...the Mustangs are WAY too porky.)
I must also note that the Laguna Seca Mustang handily dusted a Challenger SRT8 392, beating it by 6.5 seconds. (Even the regular GT 5.0 beats the Challenger, though by less than a second.) It also beat the C63 and CLS63 AMG, the Lotus Evora, the Porsche Cayman R. It takes a ZO6 Corvette, a megabuck exotic, or a dedicated track car (Ariel Atom, anyone?) to beat the Boss.
