Was watching the hockey games last night and up pops an ad for some version of M! with a year between oil changes. Are you kidding? I'm sure the oil would be good, but where do you get a filter that would hold that much filth and scuz? I'm curious. Thanks

Oil filters have no problem lasting a year, at least the middle performance or high performance models. I'm extra careful though, always using an oil filter with a silicon ADBV & an all-glass-fiber or glass/paper blend media. Fram Ultra is the best to use for these 1-year oil changes, no more than 20k miles of course.

It could be a problem if you drive on dusty dirty roads a lot and don't have your air filter pinned down tight in there, the entire air path sealed up good. Seal it all up and you're good even on dirt roads.

Well depends on your mileage someone who do say 30 000 miles a year would change oil at least twice.
I use valvoline maxlife synthetic blend and change every 6 months or so (for the while) at an OCI of maybe 8000-10 000 km

Also you have to consider your oil sump size, my car sump is only 3.25 quarts, i would never go an OCI of anything over 10 000km.

Yep or use MC FL-910S like TIG1 does

Why would you expect "much filth and scuz"? What have you seen in your used filters?

My wife's 2002 Honda Civic comes with a recommendation for a "normal" change interval of 10,000 miles/1 year along with an oil filter change with every other oil change. So they're basically recommending up to two years between filters.

The OEM filter also has a high micron rating - something like 30 microns. I've used Purolator Classic filters, and their literature has some footnote that certain filters for Honda applications have a higher micron rating.

Silicon = An element, a glass hard material used to make computer chips.
Silicone = Rubbery compound made using the elements silicon, oxygen, carbon and hydrogen.

So, someone who's extra special careful would insist on a silicone ADBV; a silicon one might be too brittle.

I once put 30,000 miles on a Motorcraft FL-1A on a 400 -2bbl Ford F250.
Changed the oil every 10,000 or so. Mostly out of laziness & curiosity.

I had been cutting oil filters open for a while & really hadn't seen any major debris, and I just wanted to see how it would do.

It never sludged up (I have definitely seen filters with sludged pleats before)
so I can only assume it was still flowing (but no idea at what %).
It did have some bigger carbon bits & pieces in the pleats, but otherwise looked just fine.

I think it's crazy to run any oil or filter 20k miles no matter how good they are, but that's just me. 7500 miles is enough for me on Pennzoil Platinum and OEM filters in my Toyota.

That oil has .8 sulfate ash level . Fair tbn so it should do well with exaust magnesium in a aluminium engine tho kind of scare me. I wonder which is harder sodium or magnesium . But then its less then 500 part per million so it should be ok

For many years now M1 oils have been good for one year OCIs. However the recommended mileage for the various types of M1 is different. Go to their web site and look it up.

If your vehicle burns oil, you'll be using a lot more than that one container of expensive oil.

Absolutely, worst, I ever got was the perpetual oil change on oil consumers, leaks of all sorts. Constant top offs from a 2 gallon can of Gulf Sapphire 30w

Over at another forum that is truck related, someone posted a VOA on that Mobil1 Annual stuff. Seems to be a big yawn. TBN of 8 and nothing stellar about the rest of the add pack. Not wasting my money on that marketing move by XOM. At the pricing I have seen for that stuff I can do a couple oil changes a year and still be dollars cheaper.
