Olive Oil Questions

Wow half price.,
I still buy it too...seems they all have different characteristics eh..
Yes, it was on clearance and I remember your positive feedback, so I purchased one to try, but I need to get through some Greek EVOO I was gifted first:

Make sure the olive oil has either a recommendation of the olive oil council and make sure it doesn't list multiple oils from multiple countries as that is considered low quality bulk oil.

I just got this in from Amazon.
Got it for the polyphenols and it is a drinking grade... haven't got into it yet but it has a nice glass bottle. Moroccan brew.

Wow...I had some of this just now..I bought it for the polys as noted.
It's fresh but I would not suggest this for cooking or as a dressing. Seriously it is very thick..so thick it was surprising. Like Karo syrup.

The taste? Nasty very nasty.
It tastes like a mix of desert sand and mud with a cactus 🌵 aftertaste. Yes it really does and you do not get that peppery kick as it goes down.

It actually is nauseating to drink just from the thickness aspect and the taste is hideous. No other reviews mentioned any of this.

The only positive is I can reuse the glass bottle for future oils
The question I have now is does it really have more polys than other oils? It isn't out of date or even close.

I may reach out to the maker and ask if this is normal and not for a refund but is this the typical product one should expect to receive.

I never got nauseous from olive oil before even the fake stuff.

Holy crazy crep. I was skeptical
Horrible stuff..
Now that Pompeian Robust is a fantastic oil for the $$$.
I just can't believe that Cartel olive oil.. Amsoil 20w50 is sweeter and smoother 😂

Check out queen creek olive mill. Grown in Arizona and shipped usa wide maybe international. My parents and I went on the tour and It was very educational. Unfortunately Americans get waaaaay too much olive oil of questionable quality.

Same here in Canada, which is why I buy most of my EVOO from Costco, which has a great selection of Italian oil or directly from a small producer in South Italy. What can I say, I'm biased.

Three things I look for, in order of importance:

1. EV variety.
2. Produced in Italy.
3. Opaque container.

The olive oil council (Yes that's a governing body) samples olive oil from all over every year. California olive ranch scored really high as does Luccini. I love Luccinis Arbequina which has peppery arugula notes. A few years ago Star brand Olive oil had been cut with either vegetable or avocado oil and it wasn't listed as a mixed oil. I always wondered how they can sell a bottle for $8-10 and Luccini is knocking on $19-$22 for a bottle.

Same here; a company was caught selling EVOO that had been mixed with other oils after a VOA. The oil I order directly from Italy retails for $29/750mL, but I pay wholesale by the case.

Been using a lot of evoo lately, trying different brands.
Enjoying this thread.

30 years ago i worked in a 5 star italian restaurant.
The Italian chef and owner, insisted on one specific evoo.

Carothers brothers. Came in 3 gallon square tins.

There were issues with one delivery, and he called and said not to come i to work, that we are not serving food until it arrives.

Later, Id try and replicate some of his recipes exactly but with other EVOO, and was always disappointed.
