My recently deceased father has a LOT of old oil and Automatic Transmission Fluid, always in a controlled environment (basement or attached garage) never subject to freezing temps.
Would you use it in older 80's vehicle or maybe in a lawn mower?

Well, first, I am very sorry for your loss.

Next, I would use it in anything that specifies that fluid. For example, if it’s Dexron III, I sure wouldn’t use it in a Dexron VI application, but I’d be fine with it in an older car that calls for Dexron III.

Sorry for your loss. I'd use the oil in OPE after giving it a good shake. I'd have no use for the ATF though, and if I couldn't give it away it would get recycled.

On second thought the ATF could be used to soak my ratchets that aren't sealed.

I'm sorry for your loss. A friend gave me a buch of old SJ rated oil from his late father's garage a few years ago. I had an old Volvo at the time that called for SJ, it worked just fine. He also had a couple quarts of 20 year old Yamalube TC-W3, and I'm almost through that in the boat. Again, no problems.

There have been several VOA's posted here through the years proving oil has no clock or calender. If they are well cared for and stored as you say, they are perfect to use in the specification they are designed for.

Like the guys have said... Very sorry for your father passing away. My father passed away 10 years ago. Take care of yourself one day at a time. And if something makes you remember something about your father in a out of nowhere kind of way... Let it happen. And it is a good and normal way of things. This may really grab you at surprising times... It may make you laugh and then be teary eyed... Or feel very happy and then very sad... Or just very happy and thankful... It's all a part of how that circumstance will go.

I walked around my step father's garage the other day.... Found some very old atf and oils in there... Some container we're actually from Standard Oil... Those Standard Oil containers were his father's I believe. I saw a Dexron II atf container... Gave it a shake and looked at it.

I would run that in a vehicle that specd it...

As I walked around my step father's garage I felt a great appreciation for my step father for his tremendous intelligence, work ethic and his success while he worked at the oil refinery...

My step father had two guests there and they were talking about making bullets with a machine my step father had in the garage.

Little did my step father Cornell know at that very moment a fella- me was walking around his garage thankful and grateful for the man who had helped me so much over the years.

And yes.. I have told my step father a good number of times over the past 29 years how thankful and grateful I was that he was in my life.

Just the other day I enjoyed walking around his garage looking at all of his many and I mean many tools, oils, and gadgets... It was very interesting because I know his father's belongings were in there too. I also know that as much stuff was in there... A lot of it reflected his work from the refinery but also his work he did at home too.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!
My father even has old cardboard gt cans with the tin top of Penn Jersey motor oil!
Old STP containers from the 60's
I have a 81 Corvette, suppose I could use some of the Dextron in the TH350c or the 30 weight in the lawnmower.
As for selling it, seriously is it worth the time dealing with tire kickers?
And again, the oils were stored indoors, heck the plastic bottles aren't even sucked-in like I've seen on some older bottles.
