Right now I am at 300 miles. I plan on changing the oil at the 1k mark and then at the 4k mark. Then I will get into the normal suggested oil change routine. I am looking for as much info as you guys are willing to throw out there. summer, winter, Oklahoma, Seattle, the trip from OK to WA oil suggestions. I plan on staying with OEM Subaru oil filter.
thanks in advance guys!
1. What kind of vehicle you have
2014 subaru sti
2. What your owner's manual says -- not just viscosity, but certifications (look for acronyms like API SM, ILSAC GF-4, etc.) and change intervals as well
The following
table lists the recommended viscosities
and applicable temperatures.
When adding oil, different brands may be
used together as long as they are the
same API classification and SAE viscosity
as those recommended by SUBARU.
It then lists 5w30 as recommended, but ALSO lists 5W-40, 10w30, 10W-40.
If you flip to the next page, you'll find that it also lists:
If the vehicle is used in desert areas, in
areas with very high temperatures, or is
used for heavy-duty applications, use of
oil with the following grade and viscosities
is recommended.
API classification SN (or SM):
SAE viscosity No.: 30, 40, 10W-50,
20W-40, 20W-50
It recommends synthetic and oil changes every 7500 miles unless the car is under "hard driving conditions" or in dusty climate.
3. Where you live
currently I am in south west Oklahoma. In June I will make the drive to Seattle where I will live for the next few years.
4. How you drive (easy? hard? fast? slow?)
Right now I drive it pretty easy as I am still breaking her in. Once that is over I will continue to drive easy for the most part with the occasional spirited driving spout.
5. What your daily drive is like (short trips? long trips? city? highway?)
Daily is just short trips around base, just a few miles. On the weekends I take the same short trips but I also drive long highway trips of a few hundred miles. mostly highway.
6. Whether your car has any known problems
no problems, shes still new
