I’m relatively new here, but I’ve visited this site for a few years. I need a recommendation for oil in my 06 HHR with a 2.4 engine. I currently run 5w30 house oil that seems to work OK, but after freeway usage the engine just seems “louder” than I think it should sound at idle. Is there engine oil that will keep this upper engine noise under control and let me rest easier that my engine will last?

It doesn't matter to me personally, just as long as the "loud" noise goes away. I know the noise isn't serious, it's just unsettling. My wife even asked me what that noise was yesterday, if it bothers a woman than you know it there. After freeway speeds, then driving on primary roads; at the stop lights is when you hear it most.

Pennzoil dino 5w30 would be my top pick, Then Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 would be my other top pick.

I use Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 in a 2.2 liter ecotec engine and it seems to work great. No unusual noises and the filter housing is spotless while using the full duration of the oil life monitor.

I just looked on line and say that PP comes in 5w30 and 5w30 euro, which one is better, or what's the difference?

Good luck finding the 5w30 Euro!

Its a thicker, 'Euro Spec' 5w30 that probably meets A3, whereas normal Platinum is a thinner, API SM 5w30. You only need 'normal' Platinum; you can get that ANYWHERE...look for sales and rebates for best deals!

AGREED.

I know everyone on here loathes dealing with the rebates (especially the Pep Boyz ones), but how can you possibly beat this phenomenal oil (PennzPlat) for $1.99/quart on sale/rebate?!?!
Much more than worth the hassles of a slow rebate, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm using GTX in my 2.4. Very happy with it.
