I'm trying to change the oil in my girlfriends Camry and the oil filter is stuck in place. The Pureone filter casing is so soft that the wrench just rounds off the grip on the end of the filter. I didn't put the filter on there THAT tight that I remember. Do you guys know any tricks to get the filter off? I'm about to just let her take it to a lube place and let them deal with it since they would probably have a rubber strap wrench or something similar to get the filter off. BTW, those filter socket wrenches that go on the end the filter really suck!

Try this, if you have heavy to medium grit sand paper, cup it around your hand and twist. saved my but a few times.

Filter socket wrenchs aren't the best way to go .Get a high quality band oil filter wrench. A strap type wrench works well if you can get it clise to the block.

A plumbers strap wrench will get anything, but in the absence of that you can pound a screwdriver through it and it will come off. That second one is a bit of a leap of faith, though...

I only tried a wrench once and pretty much destroyed the filter by using it. After that I just use my bare hands (with gloves on of course).

Have you tried to see if you can loosen it with your hands?

Agreed, those two will get pretty much any filter off. I've had the best luck with the blue handle pliers up top. Grip the filter as tightly as you can real clfilter threads.ose to the

Not every time. After a year or so, they can be pretty snug.

yes.....every time....

If you do the screwdriver deal, make sure you don't get to close to the engine end of the filter, otherwise, you may damage the filter mount thread nose deal, bad thing to do. Good luck.

A chain wrench....the filter won't stand a chance.

It will be messy though when the chain wrench digs into the filter and pierces it.
