OEM vs...

Well, some will be elated, some will harbor deep disappointment. But, I am the proud holder of a Fram Extra Guard as of this evening. Knowing it has a silicon ADBV will help me sleep at night. From what I gathered, the ST may not have a silicon ADBV? Also, the filter shelf at WM was as organized as my sock drawer. Also, I'm proud of everyone for contributing, especially those going slightly (or a lot?) off-topic and arguing over flow vs. efficiency, or whatever.

Been plenty of Fram EGs cut and posted here that look just fine. Been running one on an Infinity G35 and no issues, and cut open inspection looks good.

I've used em before! On my old Civic I used mostly Quaker State filters from Menards for a buck or two. Can't remember the sale prices, but they were cheap. I'd use them for 5000-7500 or so. All that to say, I use cheap filters and most ever car I've owned doesn't have engine issues and has been in my life for at least over 150k if not more. Anecdotal and totally not BITOG appropriate to use the least expensive filter.

I refuse to accept the EG as the winner. You can still take it back. More seriously, I don't think I have seen an EG or TG posted here without the end cap defect, maybe one , or two. Maybe none. Most all have it. They can't seem to center the end caps like they should be. This can't stop here, so soon.

Not this misconception again. It's been explained many times before in various threads where you seem to always bring this up (trolling much?). That little gap around the center tube you keep bringing up doesn't matter. Look at the seal impression in the end cap.

We need videos of seal impressions from here forward. Which BITOG user does the best seal bark?

Similar to fresh aquarium filters our oil filters need to have 3 T. of diatomaceous earth poured evenly into the OUTER HOLES of the filter.
Upon startup, the earth will coat the filter media and provide the very best protection.
Of course the exact level of filtration will never be revealed.

I really have to wonder sometimes how I can be so correct about someone.
It’s still not too late to go back and change the winner! 😄😄😄
Now we have the data on how people don’t want to say anything for fear of what I am so correct about! 😄😄😄🏋🏻👍🏼

LoL ... just another one of your misconceptions and trolling expeditions. Show us all how you think the gap you're so locked-on to is bad.

If you proved it was the filter, then the filter was either junk, or defective, and sounds like it caused the pump to hit pressure relief. Yet, people keep claiming Denso filters "flow well" (because they are inefficient) without ever seeing any real flow vs delta-p test data. Did you happen to cut open and inspect those filters?

I'm talking about oil filters that are designed and manufactured correctly, not defective oil filters. If you had 10 oil filters that where all within +/- a few PSI of flow delta-p, a PD oil pump doesn't know the difference and will put the same flow volume through all of them. You do realize that the oiling system itself typically contributes ~90% of the resistance to oil flow, and the filter is only ~10%.
I appeared well built. I may still have it 17 years hence in my cut filter box! I purchased a couple more from another dealer and experienced the same issue. Proved by putting the OE Toyota Denso Japan foam media unit back on and the engine running without clacking.
So maybe a SPATE of bad filters. I chalked it up to bad filter paper as everything else looked fine. I didnt try to poke at the ADBV.
I recall when manipulated disassembled it was pliable.
Back then only Lexus sold Toyota Denso Japan filters for a service replacement part. The Toyota brand got Thailand Denso.

347.5k miles on my 99GS400. I use the YZZD3 Toyota filter from Wallymart. I also use 5w30 M1 year around in SoCal...even in the summer when blasting through the 120° desert at 80+mph. You'll be fine with whatever you choose. FWIW I usually have oatmeal with chia seeds, flax meal, raisins, & cinnamon. Lunch at work is usually In N Out, CFA,....something delicious 😆😋

I am partial to an açaí bowl on the weekend.
