04 saturn ion 2.2 ecotec. I bought it with 106k and she has run perfectly, she now has 154K I have always done oil changes around 5k. This last change I put in QS full syn (free after rebate) and an stp cartridge filter. So what say ye all about how long I should run this oil? My oil life monitor always says around 6500 miles. I will NOT do a UOA and never have because I have never had an engine die on me (except my 88 Pulsar many years ago). Just curious what everyone recommends. And I will probably not follow your reccomendation anyways

Good answer, I am looking to put my mind at ease before I go 7500 miles

So you won't follow our recommendations and won't get a UOA. What does that say about you?

BITOGers read a UOA printout during breakfast rather than the morning paper. We like to say "my TBN is larger than your TBN".

I'm like you, been changing the oil on our Odyssey every 5K miles, but using synthetic Amsoil 0W-20 for as long as I've owned the vehicle. Some folks here on BITOG consider that a waste, and they're probably right. However, to me it's been cheap insurance, especially since I do my own oil changes and purchase the Amsoil at wholesale prices. However, this time I will probably go to 7500 miles and do a UOA to make sure I'm not pushing it too far. If I were you, I'd do a UOA after your next change at 7500 mi or whatever and make sure your wear metals look good.

7500 should work well....using Amsoil 0w20. Why waste good oil and time....when you could easily increase your OCI by 50% Hope you'll share your UOA with all of us

BTW...I'd be interested to know what filter you are using? Is it an extended drain filter?

haha, yeah I am a cheapo that will use an STP filter. It is the cartridge type and I have seen from using Pure P1 all the way down to the STP that the difference is almost zero. I would use any filter longer than any oil in this car.
