20,000 mile oil & filter

I live my life believing 50% of what I read or hear lol. If an oil says 20k, I believe 10k to be safe. These oil companies never intended to stand behind any issues that would arise going so long. That why they have the off-ramp of “follow the manufacturer”. To my knowledge, there’s no one who recommends 20k. At least not in the states.
I don't place much stock in a "Warranty" because ultimately a business can just force you to sue to get them to do what they are legally obliged to do. It's way, way, too easy to be legally and morally in the right and still be losing money while the person or business legally or morally in the wrong makes or keeps the money.

As such, I place a high premium on reputation and my own experience with a brand, business, or group.

In other words, I bought HPL not because of anything HPL did, but because of the great experiences and reputation here on the forum. LIkewise, I took a gamble on VRP because of the LSJ video and the many other anecdotes of VRP working well. No amount of Valvoline or HPL marketing would get me to take their claims seriously. It was only the experience of others that to me made a difference.

Anyone can make a claim.

Engines are different. Some foul the oil some don't. I am not a change junkie. I pulled a sample I still want to send in. 15 years and 1500 or so hrs just to see.
Bought a minivan with 100k on the clock, looks like it had 3k service at jiffy and it got regular service from me,,, 30k dino for next 120k till car went to junk. Had another Ford, followed it regular at 10 till off warranty and kept stretching it, ran 25 till I felt sorry for it and another 25 till car was junk.
Could see thru the oil till about 15 on a change.
I test a couple. Got diesel made in 68. First sample I incl the hrs, said was good and test again at 75 more and I run it another 500 and still test good.

I typically change the oil and filter in all of my vehicles at 5,000 miles because I have always used either conventional oil or a synthetic blend. I purchased a 2016 Acura MDX with around 68K miles last year. I performed one oil change on it so far using a full synthetic 20,000 mile 0W20 oil and 20,000 mile filter. I had no intentions of going 20,000 mile between oil changes, but the price difference was only a couple of dollars for the oil and filter compared to a lower mileage oil/filter and I figured I could give myself a little longer between oil changes. I'm using full synthetic oil because that is what is recommended for this vehicle.

I don't have much experience going beyond 5,000 or 6,000 miles between oil changes or using higher mileage full synthetic oil. My question is how long are people generally comfortable going between oil changes when using a 20,000 mile oil and filter? I figured I would change it between 5,000 and 10,000 miles. The oil life monitoring system on the MDX just recently indicated a change was needed at around 7,500 miles. My assumption is that monitoring system, at least in part, is based on the owner using the recommended full synthetic oil.

I'm interested in what the scientific and engineering literature says about this, but I don't want to spend hours upon hours researching it. I am hoping some others on this forum have already studied this. I do almost all my own repairs and maintenance on my vehicles, but I'm not an expert on this particular topic.
I'd rather buy a used car from some old retired couple who did 3k OCI than to buy from some "oil expert" doing extended oil changes.

I have never bought a used car based on its oil change history. In fact I can’t recall too many where I even knew the history. I am more concerned about the condition of the paint/interior and how it drives. If it has been taken care of in those respects then I’m happy.

I saw a notebook, had every change listed at 3k since it was new
Doesn't do much for me. Rest of car was bout junk.

I change the oil on my Subaru PI engine every 13-15K. UOA still shows plenty of life. Using M1EP and a Fram endurance filter. When I had a Honda V6, I changed at 2x the OLM (12-14K). For the DI engines we change the oil at 6K.

Do you really want to run a filter for 20K Then open it and find its a Tearolator? No I'll change mine out at 7500 miles or less and over maintain!
