OCI Obsession and loving it!

Your money, your time, your choice.

Life is all about doing what you want and when you want and that comes into play when you have the money to do so. Of course all within the limits of the law, and last time I checked 1,000 OCIs are not illegal.

You’ll find plenty of those who disagree with you based on subjective and objective means. But alas, live free or die. Enjoy the R4.

Hello all,
Figured I'd post this for a general census of the masses.
Not looking for any reprimanding on; you are wasting resources, or just flat-out ridiculous and Overkill.

I'm just voicing my oci as a cathartic and a process that I just enjoy performing on my 2024 Rav4 hybrid car, and mostly love the way it runs after a fresh change.

Does anyone else do there oci at or around 1K miles give or take.

I used to run all of the top name brand oils now I just buy a two Jigger, 10 quart box from Costco for $35 free shipping.
All of the reviews on their full synthetic 0w20 oil has been very good.
so I figure since I'm changing so frequently why not just go with a non name brand and enjoy what I do!

I should probably also mention I don't drive much Highway and I let the engine warm up probably too long, and I for sure can smell excessive fuel in the oil.
That's another reason that I have been changing so frequently but it's my obsession.

I know if I ran it on the highway more I could probably burn off a lot of that fuel. Anyway just wondering if anybody out there feels the same way, or am I the odd duck!
It’ll get old eventually

I have a 2024 Rav4 Prime XSE and have done 4 oil changes myself and I'm at 16,000+ miles. 1000 mile oil changes would be every 10 days or so for me. I currently have Ravenol 0w-16 and when I get the OA results I may consider extending oil changes out to 7,500 miles from 4,000.
I have used Pennzoil Platinum, Eneos, and Idemitsu IFG7 all in 0W-16 viscosity. They have all seemed to shear down a bit in viscosity and their Flashpoints have decreased according to their OA's.

Its funny how many people take exception to some guy changing his oil too often, but in another thread no one is questioning all the very unhealthy cigar smoking. Go figure.

Exactly. I know a guy that spent thousands to go to the Superbowl only to watch his beloved Seahawks lose on the last play.

Well, that was a waste of money wasn’t it?

Well I digress! Can anyone recommend a good CVT tranny fluid? 2024 Toyota RAV4 hybrid
I think I'm going to prepare for a 15K remove and replace.
Thanks in advance

Ackchyually the Seahawks lost with 2:02 left. And there was a series after the interception. Objectively one of the better Super Bowls as well.

Two contributing factors:
- the fresh detergent package removes most of the tribochemical barrier (a beneficial layer of oxidation on the surface of the parts; documented in SAE 2007-01-4133)
- residual oil has a small amount of metals and skews the results of UOAs (unable to be proven, but certainly plausible; no known studies of this claimed phenomenon)
The reality is that it's probably a combination of the two. And there's really no practical way to know how much of each is in an average contribution.

Discussed in detail here:
https://bobistheoilguy.com/used-oil-analysis-how-to-decide-what-is-normal/

That's interesting, do you think long term use of a product like Valvoline Restore & Protect could negatively impact that tribochemical barrier?

The only reason I would opt for anything other than Toyota fluid would be if the replacement magic fluid cut down on the CVT whining noise which is the #1 complaint on this tranny. I hear the Gen 5 hybrid transaxle is more refined so here’s to expecting a more refined drivetrain on the next gen 2026 RAV4. The Toyota eCVT will easily go 500K miles with replacement with OE fluid every 50K miles so there really is no need to search for a replacement. It is arguably the most reliable mass produced transmission on the market. Usually the transmission drain plug will be marked FE or WS to indicate the fluid fill.

Yes thanks very much I'm going to stick with the OE fluid. I agree that when it comes to these type of Transmissions stick with the OE Factory fluids.
