Currently have a full bolt on K24A2 that is tuned and have been running Valvoline Restore and Protect for a while. Mainly 3 Oci's. My first OCI was around 800 or so miles, second one was the longest with 2405 miles. Im currently on the third OCI which is 212 miles currently. Though my pan has to be dropped due to timing cover so Have to change my oil. Thing is, do I count this as an OCI or not. And how long should I use it.

Mainly cuz I do probably feel like switching to an oil with a bit more high rpm protection. ( rev limit is 8000 rpm)

I know K's can get pretty hot so yeah. What should I do?

Valvoline says to run at least four oci's at 4000 miles each to notice things cleaning up. You can run the Valvoline Restore and Protect all the time if you want to. It is their best engine oil for gas engines according to Valvoline themselves.

What gives an oil high rpm protection?

I'd expect a minimum oci to be 3000 miles so I'd say you have about 1 oci worth of cleaning at most.. or 25% of the recommended "4 oci's"

you are using the 5w30?
Correct 5w30. I only changed early since I thought it was burning oil(turns out it was a leak on the timing cover which I'm getting fixed. )

I've done used oil analysis for both. Should I link em?

Ok remember that I changed it early cuz fuel system cleaner and something causing consumption( will say that I did get kinda aggressive and went like 7500-8000 rpm and also 8100-8500 which is considered dangerous due to piston speeds.)

I also thougu 3000 was fine cuz its what my mechanic recommended me(he's a k guy.) Though also me seeing the fuel dilution for said miles.

Oil results

This is a new engine. Do what ever the manufacturer recommends.

Not really new. It is like a 20 year old engine.and definitely over 100k miles it is way beyond new.
What car do you drive and how much is your oil consumption in quarts per 5,000 or 1,000 miles? Did you do early oil changes because your consumption increased after switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect?

100K miles and a bit over is not that much for an engine in the States, especially a Japanese one. You should dun that oil for about 4K-5K miles to let does its job. Early oil changes don't give a chance to the oil to clean. As a person metnioed above with your 3 OCI totaling of 3,417 miles (800 + 2405 + 212) that is considered only 1 OCI. So, no 800 and 212 miles don't count as OCI. You should run this oil at least 15K-20K consisted of 4 OCI to see results.

The 800 was because my vtc started to make noise. After I changed that it disappeared. 2405 was due to the state of it losing. Also the fact I used fuel system cleaner that one time and iirc it was recommended to change it after the tank of gas has gone dry.

R&P isn’t a flush or necessarily a band aid. I don’t understand why someone would clean their pistons and rings, only to go back to your oil of choice, that may or may not have put you in this position to begin with? If I felt I needed an oil that cleans things up, I surely wouldn’t stop after it did. It would become a staple in my engine. I’d run a few shorter oci’s and then gradually lengthen the change regimen to my liking.

I'm on the 5th OCI of Restore and Protect (5W-30) in my sons Santa Fe. The first 4 OCI's were 4K. Starting with this one, I am extending it to 5K OCI. Just going to stick with Restore and Protect from now on in his car. I just grabbed an oil deal at O'Reilly's that someone posted. Jug of Valvoline Restore and Protect, plus Microgard select for $36. Not too bad. Fun story, I did it online for delivery, and I guess I messed it up. Oil being delivered tomorrow, but I had to go to the store to pick up the oil filter. So, kinda pointless to have shipped oil......

As others said, you aren't even at 1 full OCI yet, so I would run at least 3 more and see where that puts you.

I was only concerned due to me driving it hard sometimes. I probably like do one wot pull like every day. Also possibly the near 2% fuel dilution may have what has concerned me when I saw my used oil analysis. I know my things a fuel drinker if its either the aem 340 pump or the larger rdx 410 injectors but ****.

One pull to redline a day doesn't degrade the oil to the point of needing sub 3k mile oil changes. Your car, your money. If it were mine, I'd do 5k changes.

I am currently running and will continue to use Valvoline Restore and Protect in a K24V7. The K24 engines are know to burn oil. Wouldn't there be an advantage to keeping the low tension rings free and working? I'm also curious why you would think it is not good for hard driving?

I used maxlife synthetic from a new cars 1st oil change up till the time I ran out, which was 85k. I stripped the pcv on the valve cover and had to change it out. I can’t imagine a cleaner engine than what I had, but I guess anything’s possible. This was also on a 2018 with no DI. Since then I’ve used Mobil 1, HPL, HPS, Schaffers and Valvoline advanced and a short run of pennzoil regular synthetic, which made the car sound like crap. The only time I ever went past 5k on the oil was with HPL and that was only 6500k. This car sits at 120k and use not a drop of oil. I recently drove from Ohio to Pensacola with 5 andults and luggage averaging 80mph there and back. Still not a drop burnt. If I see some consumption I’d probably use Valvoline Restore and Protect but see no reason to. Or maybe I should start using it to be proactive?

That seems to imply that its effectiveness at cleaning is gone by 4k - but to me it’s still a modern SP/SQ lube at that point. I would not dump it early without some other reason … With this magical has to be four rounds thing (regardless of engine and conditions) - that can turn into a full change wasted.
