If it takes 3+ months to do 1k I'd agree more than disagree in dumping it early. But if he does this monthly well I think I'll just mind my business and not tell others how to live their lives. At least he's not spending much on oil anyway.+1000

GDI or MPI engine ? What vehicle ? How long do you plan to keep the vehicle ? … Six months / 5K miles however is a great starting point .Six months or 5k miles for me. Anything else is just wasting resources and throwing away money. Maybe take up another hobby like sharpening knives.
This and stop using aftermarket oil. You need to get OEM Oil and filters from the dealer parts desk.I think doing it at 943 miles would be better.

Good to know. I have a 2002 Honda XR650R in the basement with 1,360 kms on it. Every time I walk past it I crank it over a couple times with the kick starter.1517.611 km![]()
In my situation, it takes roughly 6 months to hit 1,000 kms/600 miles of exclusive stop and go, short tripping. If it takes 3+ months to do 1k I'd agree more than disagree in dumping it early. But if he does this monthly well I think I'll just mind my business and not tell others how to live their lives. At least he's not spending much on oil anyway.
I think that is only if you change the oil brand/type, where the new additive package needs time take effect over the old one still on the moving parts and in the old oil which didn't completely drain out.Might be doing more harm than good?
Didn't some of @dnewton3 's data show that wear went up right after an oil change?
Meanwhile, me at 8.5K/10 track days/1 year and an auto cross with oil at 280 deg for hours..hahahahWell, I must admit that a thousand miles is a bit excessive, I might have to push it to 1500, and eventually nurture myself back to the 3K oci.
Oh and yes a good question, 1K takes me around 3 months give or take depending on what type of driving.
