OCI Obsession and loving it!

I enjoy working on my non daily drivers, and that includes OCD OCIs. :) That includes OCI of 1000 or less miles on non-daily drivers.

Six months or 5k miles for me. Anything else is just wasting resources and throwing away money. Maybe take up another hobby like sharpening knives.
GDI or MPI engine ? What vehicle ? How long do you plan to keep the vehicle ? … Six months / 5K miles however is a great starting point .

Another question OP. Do you leave the filter on at least for a few 2 gas tank runs or is that coming off every time? Cause those must be the cleanest used filters ever if they are getting changed every 2 gas tanks.

If it takes 3+ months to do 1k I'd agree more than disagree in dumping it early. But if he does this monthly well I think I'll just mind my business and not tell others how to live their lives. At least he's not spending much on oil anyway.
In my situation, it takes roughly 6 months to hit 1,000 kms/600 miles of exclusive stop and go, short tripping.
With an engine know for dilution of fuel, (which I can confirm from the "sniffer test"), I also change my oil every 1k kms/600 miles.

Might be doing more harm than good?
Didn't some of @dnewton3 's data show that wear went up right after an oil change?
I think that is only if you change the oil brand/type, where the new additive package needs time take effect over the old one still on the moving parts and in the old oil which didn't completely drain out.

Short mileage or seasonal changes can make sense in certain situations. The Hyundai gets seasonal OCI which usually equals approx 6 months/600 miles. It only gets short trips. Typically 2 miles, twice a day, 5 days a week. Not worth it to me to get UOA’s done with cheapo store brand blends on a +200K mile beater or to drive it more. I just change the oil and move on with life. But it isn’t an obsession.

Well, I must admit that a thousand miles is a bit excessive, I might have to push it to 1500, and eventually nurture myself back to the 3K oci.

Oh and yes a good question, 1K takes me around 3 months give or take depending on what type of driving.

Meanwhile, me at 8.5K/10 track days/1 year and an auto cross with oil at 280 deg for hours..hahahah
