Not Happy: Nissan oil filter now made in China

Your filter is made in China? Chances are so is your underwear ;-) And toothbrush. Get use to it...our US gov has sold us all out :-(

This just makes me think of how at one time, Japan was simply the middle of nowhere, and everyone thought it would be an endless supply of cheap junk. At some point, it became a maker of many fine things, and labor rates shot up around the same time. At one time, Korea made nothing but junk, built by cheap labor, but they now make some fine computer components, by well paid people.

One day, China isn't going to remain a dump with cheap labor for making cheap junk. Then, another country will have to be a cheap labor place.

Ah well... I have bought various filters for my ION. Purolators came from Thailand, and Frams came from Hungary. My Super Tech filter was made in the USA, and cost less. Amazing.

I cut open an OEM Nissan 15208-65F0C oil filter. The box says "Made In China". Here are the pics, judge for yourself.

OEM filter cut open (I immediately noticed the cardboard endpiece). The ADBV on the OEM filter was nitrile rubber and felt very thin/flimsy.

Everything inside the OEM filter laid out.

It is already happening. There was an article in (IIRC) the WSJ about how China is outsourcing some jobs to Vietnam. The labor costs are lower.

I have also read where some Chinese items are of superior quality to what can be manufactured here or in western Europe, due to the environmental regulations. Apparently there are some manufacturing processes such as metal plating that produce a much higher quality finish if you use some highly toxic materials to produce them. These materials are not able to be used here (but are in China) and as a result, some companies outsource these procedures for quality reasons.

That article also said that some plastic molding industries (such as vinyl articles) are produced almost nowhere in the world except for China, again due to environmental and occupational health reasons.

Speaking of the big 3's quality... I'm not impressed with Chrysler or Ford these days. In fact I won't buy another Chrysler after my experience with our piece of [censored] Neon (junk junk junk). For my next car I'm buying an import. Of the big 3, GM is the only one that is making a half decent product IMO.
