This little gem was on their website. Looks like all flavors of the NextGen Maxlife is SN and GF-5 certified.

http://www.valvoline.com/pdf/NextGen_Maxlife.pdf

After reading more about the reclamation, it's amazing we've been throwing out oil for so long...just to get rid of what we were putting IN the oil.

Since some of us have no idea what we're looking at (namingly me..), what does the spec look like? Good? Bad? Ugly?

Definately something to think about...

I'm planning on running a 5-quart jug of Maxlife 5W-30, and top off (~6 quart sump) with Mobil Delvac 15W-40. Looks like a great oil for most applications. IDK if I'd use it specifically to clean, there are other oils better at cleaning, but an overall good, robust oil for everyday useages.

What's funny is Valvoline has been recycling oil for longer than NextGen has existed. There is no regulation on listing recycled oil content, so they opted not to list it on their products. When they saw that people might be willing to buy specifically recycled oil, they released NextGen.

It's a good product, equal to their non-NextGen Maxlife.

It's also a synthetic blend, too...isn't it? Their website says it's synthetic and mineral base stocks...

I'm going to try it..

Plus, with the $10 MIR, it'll be like 7 bux from wallyworld when alls said and done.

Already added to the stash!

Please provide documentation and your source... Otherwise this is unsubstantiated information to be assumed to be incorrect.

I don't understand why they haven't released GF-5 specs on any of their other oils??

The NextGen Products look to be absolutely the same or better than the Valvoline conventional and Maxlife GF-4 specs.

I too was a little confused by this. Who says Valvoline has been using recycled oil in their products without disclosing it?

I know the company that does oil recycling through O Reilly's mentioned that a lot of the SuperTech oils are made using recycled oil they pick up and process. Now thats just him saying it,but it sure is not on the bottles at Wal Mart nor on the other lubes made by Warren in this area...of course thats assuming the dude I talked to knew his butt from an intake manifold.

Sounds like a Supertech scare story to me.

I'm personally never going to use it.

Out of curiosity - any reason why not?? I have 3 jugs of it here I plan on burning thru.

Very nice collection but he still has lots of empty space on those shelves!

I'm thinking that crude oil has has at least as many "contaminants" as drain oil, if not more. I think that the public perception of motor oil made from recycled oil is that somehow it is inferior. But that is simply not true. Valvoline is banking on the sector of the population that is receptive to 'green' products. I think they are the first major to offer oil from recycled oil. I'm sure the others are watching to see if it sinks or swims before they follow with their own offerings.

Not correct, Valvoline's Maxlife and NextGen Maxlife are NOT GF-5 and resource conserving certified. Therefore they cannot and do not carry the "donut," which is an issue for vehicles under warranty. Buyer beware.
Dunno-according to this guy they must have changed the formula-

Apparently Valvoline MaxLife must have been beefed up to make up for the Durablend going away.

Hmmm, lets take a look... -grabs recently purchased quart of nextgen/maxlife 5w-30- mkay, looking here, it's API SN on the donut, but no resource conserving label. "Meets or exceeds all protection requirements of ILSAC GF-5".

IMHO, should be fine.
