...but I found this deal for 5 quarts of valvoline with a free stp filter. Good combo? Valvoline good?

Pretty much any SM-rated oil will perform equally over a 3,000 mile interval. That Valvoline deal sounds pretty good to me.

No Walmart in Arkansas - How can that be?
ST filter and jug of Havoline would be my choice but
ST dino would work too and not bother me at 4K OCI.

well i would have done valvoline. and yes there is a walmart. but like i said there's that coupon for 5 quarts of valvaline with a free stp filter. Can I wait to 4k before i change with that? is valvoline sm certified? that's the highest cert right?

Most grades of Valvoline found on a shelf today should be SM rated, although you might still see some SL out there too. No worries, either would be just fine.

Well that guy mentions these specific filters as being "manufactured off shore of sub-standard parts". I would agree that you should try to purchase and american/european/Japanese made filter,(just My preference)
Whenever Possible. I dont really know about the sub-standadard parts theory. Maybe, I'd believe though. My point is that My bosch filter is stamped made in USA along with my supertech filter and 1 stp filter I,ve seen has been Made in mexico. Just Inspect the filter you want to buy. It should have a stamp on it stating where it was made. and as people have mentioned dont buy Fram, Unless its their Top of the line model.

so is valvoline comparable to castrol?

At a 3,000 mile interval, any SM rated oil is comparable. I personally would pick Castrol over Valvoline if both were priced the same, but the Valvoline deal you mentioned earlier sounds good to me.

well i would like to go to 4k, i think he was saying all the low end stps were made out of the country. he seems to really diss it.
