If you can get under the car without jacking, then go for it. If you must jack it up, make sure you use jackstands!!! I think Castrol GTX & Purolator filters makes a perfect combo.

I can't find any places around here that have purolator, anyone know of any regional places? Autozone has STP. Would Stp/Gtx be a good combo? and what intervals would I have to change my oil with those? thanks

I didn't read all the other replaies, so hope it's not too repetitive.

Yeah the oil they have is fine; but how do you know which oil they are putting in? What if they put the wrong kind in? What if they overfill it? Underfill it? Loose drain plug? Loose filter?

I say never take you car there (And I used to go there, I know).

Here's some priceless advice that kind save you money and headaches:

Chevron Supreme for $1.09/quart, walmart supertech oil filter, $2. Knowing it's done right, because you did it yourself? Priceless!

@1.09/quart, and the filter, that comes to abot $9. Jiffy lube here is $35 out the door (tax, etc.). So you save $25 ever ________ oil change! You know the correct oil is in there, the drain bolt is tight, etc..

OR take it to the dealer or if you know a trustworthy mechanic.

So walmarts supertech oil filter is a decent filter, better than fram and as good quality as stp or puraltor? And chevron supreme is comparable to gtx? thanks bro

That's about the 20th time and version of that question from the starter in this thread..

My troll detector is starting to get warmed up.

lol well it took a long time for ppl to answer so i had to keep asking it. So it's a champion labs filter. Any idea on how good of a quality it is/comparable to anything? thanks

forget all my other questions. no one carries chevron here (walmart or my autzone) So forget about it. How's valvoline and stp or coastal and stp? promise last question.

How about Havoline? You should be able to find it if Chevron isn't available there.

Valvoline oil and an STP filter would be OK. I'd personally pass on the Coastal oil though and stick with the "majors" such as Havoline, Castrol, Mobil, Valvoline, or any of the CP family (MotorCraft, Trop Artic, Kendall, etc.)

Doesn't matter. Remember the basic rules of thumb. There are a couple of clear lines of DEMARC here.. Conventional Dino oil, in SM/GF4, very, very little difference between any of them in a 3-5 thousand-mile OCI. Use any of them. If it's SM/GF4-rated, it's FINE. This in spite of contentions that some folks' vehicles "like" one over the other. Same thing for oil filters. Get any level of filter above a Jiffy-Lube/Fram oil filter (and even these are adequate, if not preferred for 3K), there's little difference, again, in a 3-5 thousand mile OCI. More important is your air filter from what I read..

When you want to go beyond a 5K on up to a 10,000 mile oil change interval, you go synthetic. REAL synthetic, as in PAO/Ester. As in Mobil1, Redline (RL), Amsoil, German Castrol, Royal Purple. When you do that, go with a PureOne, Amsoil, Baldwin, WIX, NAPA Gold or, especially, Amsoil EaO high capacity filter.

Of course, folks will be along to smack me

around to remind me that GroupIII synthetic will get you there, but I don't buy it, not when you're talking 10K. Besides, GroupIII syn costs the same as Group IV and V anyway, why not get the real thing?

Once you determine the level of service you're demanding of your oil, brand doesn't much matter; the only consideration is the viscosity, especially in the Wintertime. The rule of thumb there was written (as far as I'm concerned, humble opinion, all that), by the good Dr. Haas: In the cold, no oil is thin enough.

Havoline is sold. but I found this deal for 5 quarts of valvoline with a free stp filter. Good combo? Valvoline good? now last question promise.
