New Valvoline Oil

An update to my above post ^^^^, which was after just 1,200 miles of using Valvoline R&P for the first time in an exceptionally well cared for 250K miles plus Honda Element with a K24 engine (500 mile first, then 1,500, then 3,000, then 5,000, then 5K every since. Either Castrol Edge Black Bottle or Gold Bottle for the life of the of the vehicle so far.

The following picture is after 1,700 miles on the second oil change of R&P. This baffle has been vanished for as long as I remember because it gets no direct oil splash.

Compared to the first picture you can see R&P is cleaning noticeably, even in an area I consider hard to clean.

For the third change, which I did this morning, I'll run it about 2,500 miles.

FWIW,

Scott

Edit: For grins I did a compression test today. Warm engine. Specs from the factory service manual for new engine is 185 psi; for "serviceable engines" no more than 28 psi difference from high to low, and no less than 135 psi. For our Element #1 175, #2 172, #3 178, #4 185. But no means am I saying this is because of R&P. Rather, I am 100% confident it's because of my meticulous maintenance, my respectful use of the vehicle, and the K24 engine itself. At any rate, I think the results are remarkable given the engine had 254,096 miles on it when I tested it this morning. Hail the mighty K24!!!

I'd do longer oci (3k miles) if you're only doing 1700-2500

I don't know about the oil product but I do not like the bottles that they are in. I bought a 5-quart jug and after I opened it I cannot get the cap to stay on. I put the fresh oil in my vehicle after a recent oil change and used the empty jug for the used oil that I am planning to recycle but I'm very concerned about transporting that jug now because the cap keeps popping off and I don't want a bunch of used motor oil spilling all over my floorboards. Very annoying and I won't be buying any Valvoline products again.

Very cool! I wonder if the compounds they're using in this oil will find their way into other manufacturers.

Yes, agree. I'm going to let this third batch go 2,500 to 3,000. Interesting too - when I cut open the first and second filters I saw no signs of carbon chunks. When you consider how the baffle looks like it's being cleaned, is R&P dissolving deposits rather than freeing them up in small chunks that are caught in the filter?

I've used 3 jugs already and had no problems whatsoever with the cap.

Valvoline says it burns up and goes out the exhaust

Yes, that was something mentioned in the FAQs on Valvoline's website.

Yes it's a slow dissolving cleaning process. It's not a flush. The important takeaway though is that it can remove piston deposits which are a much more stubborn type of deposit to remove.
