Not that interesting to me, coming from a family supported by domestic vehicle manufacturers. I will do what I can to help these companies out. It is not racism. At any rate, we have gone far off topic, this thread is about the new Tundra. I will say no more.

Those are specific business decisions based on the clients business interest where major #@$%! kissing is usually required.
I support anyone's right to support any automaker they like but I don't judge them on it. I certainly would not make a hiring decision based on it.

If any business needs this type of protectionism from it'
s employees or those associated with them it is not a good indicator of the companies competitive position.

To me, horsepower in a truck doesn't mean squat. What counts is load carrying capacity, towing ability, and low-end torque. None of which Toyota has.

Thanks to variable valve timing, the Toyota 5.7, whose torque peaks at 401 ft lbs, has at least 360 ft lbs b etween 2500 rpm and 5500 rpm. It has slightly over 300 ft lbs at 1200 rpm. Sounds like pretty good low end torque to me.

So these power numbers are at the crank right? So whats at the wheels?

The advertised horsepower and torque are all we have to compare the performance potential of one vehicle to another. Chassis dyno figures are not widely advertised, so about all we have to compare is the advertised power at the crank. As, essentially, all we want to do is compare one vehicle's power to another, this is satisfactory. This assumes that manufacturers are honest when they give their figures.

If anyone knows of a website that has tested and gives power at the drive wheels, let us know.

KUDOS to you!! Only on here, and most of the import fanboy sites would one be accused of "racism" for supporting domestic manufacturers (or supporting the supporters of domestic manufacturers). I've been "accused" many times on here, for supporting/sticking up for domestic nameplates. In fact, it's soooo bad on here that the accusers STILL labeled me as such, EVEN when they found out I have a native Chinese girlfriend (now a U.S. citizen).
I guess that one can only be "racist" for their views on inanimate objects on here, flesh and blood mean NOTHING at all!!

ulgy truck...but nice numbers....nice motor...no matter..the toy is still and will be for a while way behind. So they finally make a full size truck...or do they..3/4 ton? 1 ton? 2 or 3 ton? How about a dually 4x4 4 door...I think not....from a guy who uses trucks daily on the job...a half ton is still not for working hard...just light duty....so the toy still has a ways to go.

http://www.hino.com/ Here are some higher GVW Toyota rigs. As a side note, Hino made my FZJ80 Land Cruiser:)

Hi

I have just been reading this thread..esp the last few pages.
How sad this once great site has degraded to this degree.

This thread is a joke......new Toyota with 10% more guts can tow an aircraft carrier....anybody who is serious about towing anything buys a 3/4 ton. Give me a 2500 Chevy for any construction work. I worked in the brick trades for 10 years. Long enough to know a 1/2 ton anything is for soccer Moms....and Mom don't know what torque is...she wants a cutsie cup holder for her Starbucks and a bluetooth for her cell phone. Any contractor who shows up in a 1/2 ton is borrowing his Sisters truck until he can get enough scratch together to buy a big boy truck......LOL

Real Truck Chevy Diesel motor specs
The available Duramax Diesel 6.6L V8 Turbo engine features:

With the required Allison six-speed automatic transmission:
365 horsepower @ 3000 rpm
660 lb.-ft. of torque @ 1600 rpm
I'm sure that Ford & Dodge have great numbers also

I am sure that if and when Toyota decides the 1 ton market is viable you will come up with something like, " Uh the F550 can do this..."

So you are saying that half ton trucks are no longer real trucks just so I understand you correctly?
Sure that's your opinion or may be your minimum required needs for a truck and that's fine. Putting up a diesel engine that is only installed on 3/4 ton and larger frames and comparing it to a half ton power train is not what I would call a logical comparison.

If you need a truck with those specs then certainly the Cummings powered Dodge, a older power stroke such a 2002 (not thrilled with the newer motor myself as I drive both power strokes at work but my primary truck is a 1 ton 2002 power stroke) or the Chevy Duramax are good selections.

I will also admit that half ton trucks are not fit for my workplace, they are two light and they get beat up by the roads and have multiple parts failing all the time (we have dual fuel CNG/Gas f150's in the fleet). The one tones are needed just to handle the rough roads and the deep snow.

So if you want to say that fort many applications a half ton truck is not adequate then I will agree with you.

But for many businesses and people a half ton truck fits the bill. Landscapers, independent tradesmen, carpenters, electricians and plumbers have gotten by for years with half ton trucks and vans. For the family that wants to pack a light picnic trailer or the boat owner who likes to make impromptu dashes to the boat ramp when the weather permits, the half ton trucks has served and continues to serve that niche. It is still a real truck, it is simply lighter duty than heavier rated trucks obviously.

For that extra capability the market dictates a premium price. That towing ability , diesel engine and heavier axles do not come cheap. At work I drive a Super duty, the diesel engine and heavier frame take a beating but it does still break down from time to time with small stuff that still leaves me literally out in the cold when the engine won't run. Cam positioning sensor, bad injectors and a couple of torque converters have failed on my work truck. But I also have dusty summers and winter temperatures that are inhumane.

At home all I need is a light truck. A super duty would be overkill. A half ton is overkill. So my Fake truck Tacoma and I haul 5k lb trailers and fill the bed with Compost to take care of my needs and go play. When I am driving around unloaded more than half the time at home I sure am glad I don't have a 1 ton.

1/2 tons are sissy girl trucks, but so are 3/4 tons and 1 tons. If a 1 ton is enough for you, then obviously you aren't a real man and you aren't doing manly enough projects. 2 ton is the absolute minimum for proof of manhood.

Lol, So it seems.

Any REAL MAN should have a winch truck in his Driveway I suppose.

Oh you don't need tow capability but need to haul some mulch?

Here you go.

Don't wan't to be caught in some tiny pickup that can't haul 10 yards at a time do we?
