Or the company who built my 94 in California with American workers.

Even for it being a Corolla, the materials and workmanship are of better quality then a late model 2.4L Camry I recently rode in.

The NUMMI cars weren't too bad. They kept a tight leash on the 'Merican workers back then and most of the parts were genuine Japanese. Things have slipped a bunch since then.

A bunch of Bubbas are slapping together Toyotas like Chevys now with American sourced parts from the lowest bidder under Toyota's brilliant new "cost cutting initiative".

You truly need to move out of the states if that is how you feel.

The problem with Toyota is not just the engineering or production mistakes, but the culture of lying, denials, and silencing victims by settlements.

LA Times details Toyota history of concealing safety issues:

Full disclosure: I own 2 Toyota cars and I talked to my family how to handle unwanted acceleration.

Needs to move to Japan from the sounds of things.

I don't need to do anything.

It's my personal opinion that domestically produced vehicles aren't as good as Japanese vehicles produced in Japan with old school Japanese quality control.

I guess you are entitled to your opinion not based on any fact.

I was going to say wrong, but hey even without facts you can have an opinion.

I was an ASE Master Technician and worked as a Toyota line technician and (briefly) a GM line technician before I chose a different career path in my 30's. What are your qualifications?

"America.......love it or leave it". How original.
I never thought I'd have my citizenship called into question based on my vehicle preference.
This is a pretty good forum with a lot of good information, but the imperialist undercurrent and flag waving gets old after a while.

All I can do is point you toward several cars.

Toyota Prius
Mazda CX-9
Mazda RX-8
Toyota Yaris

These are a few examples, guess what they all have in common? ding ding ding! Assembled in Japan. Now compare them to..

Ford Fusion Hybrid
GMC Acadia
(When I think of domestic maker produced competitor to the Rx8 I will get back to you)
Yet to be released Ford Fiesta

And tell me that the quality of the japanese assembled car is any better than the one assembled in the US.

Finally assembly is indeed in Hermosillo, Mexico. However the car is 50% American Sourced content, and many people would agree that certain mexican assembled cars (cough VW cough) are very poor quality. And the Fusion is still built by an American company, unlike toyota. He wasn't just dissing American's ability to put things together, he was insulting everything that has ever been designed built, or had anything remotely to do with the United States because apparently we're all a bunch of tossers.

Let's not forget from whom the Japanese "Total Quality Management" philosophy came directly from, and it was not anyone from Japan.

Too bad American companies didn't adopt it first.

I still find it hilarious that some posters on this forum still insist that American cars are now just as good or better than foreign cars just because of quality improvements.

Listen, people buy cars for reasons other than quality. They buy them for the driving experience. They buy them for the design. And let's not forget that the after-sale dealer experience is extremely important, and this is an area that some foreign brands excel in.

So, before you state that a particular vehicle is better than another vehicle, you must first examine the entire package. Quality on its own doesn't sell, you need the entire package. You cannot pay me to drive certain "reliable" cars when there are other choices on the market that are more appealing in terms of features, designs, brand image, etc, even if the reliability of the vehicle is not quite as good.

Had nothing to do with that. Just seems you don't think Americans can make anything decent, Why stay?

You blame the Guy down on the floor making the product, instead of Toyota, when it is an Engineer defect and cost cutting measure that Toyota is responsible for.

Ah yes Yeti, I did read your post and that was good stuff. I don't know why I waste my breath.

I guess most likely I have the between coats of paint I have been putting on my interior doors. Plus the sheeple are fun to watch when something happens to their favorite car company.

Oh that's fine. I don't mind if people buy another car company because they like the car and how it looks. I start to have a problem when they buy it "because american cars suck, will break down every other week, interior is made of fisher price plastic" etc etc. THAT is what gets my hackles raised.

+1

Whats hilarious is that some in this thread seem to think that Toyotas cost cutting measures are a referendum on the quality of American workers.

What someone buys is their own business, but when they come in here and make broad statements based on ignorance and prejudices, then that should be taken to task.

Some people seem to think that an engineer is the guy on a choo-choo train.

Debatable.

Ships, aircraft, heavy equipment and tools. Yes.

Electronics, passenger cars, and everyday consumer goods. No.

Toyota needs to get back to its roots. Japanese engineering. Japanese parts. Japanese assembly. Japanese quality control. Toyota is worse than GM now............worse because they were once a world class company that went down the tubes. This makes them worse than GM because GM NEVER had any class to begin with.

Comments like the one above prove who should be listened to and who should be ignored. "GM NEVER had any class to begin with" is both insulting and completely wrong. It demonstrates either ignorance or a complete lack of honestly, objectively examining the set of facts at hand. You think people should just let you post such ignorance without replying to it?

ANYONE who thinks the Japanese/Chinese/Koreans make better electronic equiptment than the USA is grossly misinformed. Yes, they make cheaper, smaller stuff, but the real quality names are those which I'm guessing you arent even aware exist. Tell me why do the Japanese worship McIntosh equiptment? Even to the point they bought the company. The American/Canadien/English Audio industry leaves the Far East in the dust and ANY audiophile knows that. Can you name one, just a single simple one japanese company that makes speakers that are considered top of the line stuff? How about a top of the line Japanese made AMP?

My old Corolla was built by American workers and it's a better made vehicle IMO (just the fit/finish/quality of materials/overall BEEFINESS!) then my neighbors Japanese made Prius.
