Toyota recalls 2.3M US vehicles to fix gas pedals. They are claiming that "parts that are worn" are causing the pedals to stick. This is in addition to the previous floor mat/gas pedal recall.

The recall has the dealerships shortening gas pedals. Maybe later the pedals will be replaced, but for now the pedal is removed and a metal template is used when grinding the plastic and shaping the end.
When are they going to implement a brake overside feature in the ECU software.

By the way, my mother's 2008 Toyota Avalon is affected, which makes me really happy, because the other day when I was at the gasoline station filling up her car for her, the engine would not start on me initially, but I thought it did, so I pressed the pedal. When I realized it wasn't started, I started it and the engine went to 8,000 RPM for 2 to 3 seconds. Thankfully, the parking brake was on (and I put the car into neutral while slamming the brake as soon as I realized what was happening), but it would have collided with another car if it had not been for that. I assume this issue is what caused it. Her car is going to the dealership ASAP.

Could it be maybe they have cheaped out a bit as they thought since they were on top they could.
Here in America we make Jets, Submarines, Aircraft Carries and yes even cars, All made by American workers all doing good things and working properly everyday.

Toyota has drastically cut their overall build quality.

They had article tonight on ABC News, note Toyota was not going to announce anything but ABC told them they were going to do an article tonight on the sudden acceleration with new findings. So toy decided to pre-empt and announce another recall.
They ABC showed an Avalon went off road, over some guys front yard(huge yard) thru his chain link fence, into a pond. All four people killed.
ABC Claims over 2400 accidents, 18 people killed and showed one where they knew it wasnt floor mats since the mats were in the trunk of the car of the deceased.
Also interviewed guy who experienced it and told reported it wasnt a stuck pedal, he put trans in neutral and managed to stop the car but said the breaks were smokin.
sounds like toy does not know what the problem really is and they want to cover it up, ie no ownership until exposed and they are emabarrased and no different then the Big 3, especially with safety.

A BIG +1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The USA makes some of the best products in the world. The Jets, Subs, and Carriers you mentioned are just a few. Maybe Toyota got to big to fast, and its payback time.
I hope for their sake, and the sake of people driving these unsafe cars that no one else gets hurt or killed. Everyone makes mistakes, even the best, its how they handle these mistakes that seperates them.

These DBW systems are extremely fussy and require shielding and perfect electrical grounds. An engineer would swear to you that RF energy and such won't interfere with them, but that's only if the shielded cables and grounds remain perfectly intact.
It's frankly a little scary to think of all these DBW cars 15 years from now with 200k miles on them running around with funky wiring harnesses. I know that DBW has been around for a while, but it's never been mass produced like it is now on low rent transportation for the masses (who have a history of ignoring check engine lights and not maintaining ANYTHING).
