If it was the old Group III repacked, wouldn't they have "energy conserving" in the API donut? I don't believe the American version is as thick as the GC.

Made it to AutoZone today. They had some of the new-label REAL GC, so I bought a six-pack due to the 5/22.99 with an STP filter deal. They had the filter for my mom's car, normally $5. So, after I account for that, the GC only costs $3.60! Wow, what a deal!!!

Was looking at the Castrol USA website and from looking at the 0W-30 info, it looks like in the future it must be all GC or equivalent. A3, B3, B4 ratings now, so it couldn't be the old stuff, although I'm sure there's lot's of the old stuff around.

Maybe it's going to be a similar product, but produced in USA or Canada from now on??

The 5-30 and 10-30 is the same old stuff.

Same story here. The local autozone had nothing but dusty, yellow labelled bottles for months and just recently got in GC with the new bottle design. Batch code starts with M033. I hadn't been in there for a couple of months so I'm not sure if they actually removed the old bottles or if people bought them, but all they have is GC now, and a lot of it.

Just a thought here that I doubt the new red GC bottles are the LongTec. I have both oils and they appear identical. Why do we always get the cast-off Euro oils?

"cast-off Euro oil" or not, this stuff is working very well, that's all I care about. Even if it turned out to be made from a group 3 base oil I wouldn't care. This oil is readily available here in Canada, costs less than the top level synthetics (in some cases half the price!), and has shown me the lowest lead wear in my LT1 by a very huge margin.

So what's the bottom line here? As long as we see "Made in Germany" on the back, are we getting the good stuff? As long as its green and alcohol-smelly, are we getting the good stuff?

Yes, if it's green and it says made in Germany, that's the good stuff.

Hint, the add you smell in GC , Synergyn, and Nuetra is a similar chemistry !

Looks like Castrol Formula SLX 0W-30 typical properties we usually took a base for our discussion here, were a little bit aged. Feel the difference:

PSD as of December 1999
http://www.geocities.com/gkurka2001/slx0w30.pdf

http://www.veedol.de/produkte/a_pkw_motorenoele/index.html

PSD as of July 2002
http://www.atp-leitner.at/content/Downloads/Kraftfahrzeuge/Castrol_Formula_SLX_0w30.pdf

As it was earlier advised Castrol Formula SLX 0W-30 had been discontinued. Instead of it Castrol has launched a new product. It's called either Castrol DCO TOPUP 0W-30 or Castrol Formula SLX LongTec 0W-30 depending on a market.

There is no yet an info about its performance, but thanks to Quattro Pete we know now that its PSD is similar to Castrol Formula SLX GM 0W-30.

I have been checking at Autozone periodically and had given up. I was there this morning and noticed they had pulled all the N/A stuff.

All the 0W-30 is now nice new bottles of the GC.

This tells me it's now going to be their main-stream product and is here to stay.

If my little town has it standard, everybody will.

So where exactly are you finding GC in Denver? Every store I've checked so far only has the N.A. 0w-30.

Patman, I saw the red label GC 0W30 at Wal-mart. It definitely didn't say Made in Germany so don't know if it is the real stuff of the group III blend.

Interesting, as I've never seen any red label stuff up here that was the US made stuff.

YES BEWARE!! I fell into that trap on one of my shopping sprees .... there was a while when the old US made 0W-30 was put into the "GC like" bottles. Differences to spot those are: says made in us and these do have a Starburst symbol on the front (GC does not!).

Well the stuff in Schaeffer's is the same too!! Schaeffers and GC look and smell absolutely IDENTICAL !!! I did the test comparing them in two water glasses.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I just stumbled on it when searching for gc info, i have one of these "new" bottles and the num on bottom is MO40....

Just passing this along to those interested....

It is encouraging to see that the green elixir is still a point of interest. A great oil that precipitates (no pun intended or characteristic implied) lots of discussion; if I were Castrol I'd be feeling pretty good about that...and might even think the other guys were feeling a little...shall we say...green
