New Oil Filters at Advance Auto

I stopped in tonight and noticed some additions to the oil filter lineup over there. The new Bosch Distance Plus filters advertise the same 99.9% efficiency, but tout a 29 gram capacity for contaminants vs PureOne's 13 grams. Also the can is very heavy like Wix, M1, K&N, and Amsoil. The price was up there at about $13.50 like M1 and K&N.

Also noticed the PureOne clone, Bosch-in the black boxes like those at Auto Zone, had been added to the lineup as well. Frams were on the bottom row near the floor. Good place for them.

Nice to have more quality choices. Just waiting now on the deals.

Interesting. Probably a great filter for long oil change intervals.

By the way, the Bosch Premium filters aren't quite complete PureOne clones. I've noticed their cans feel significantly thicker than PureOne.

Here is a thread on the filter. I am surprised Advance now carries Bosh filters but it is always nice to have more of a selection.

Bosch owns 50% of Purolator while Mann+Hummel owns the other half so I wouldn't be surprised of any similarities

Yeah at $13 and change(from link), think I too will hang with the P1's for $5-6.

AAP does have a good selection of oil filters though. Always been better than AZ, IMO.

PureOne is on par with a Bosch Premium filter. Purolator doesn't make a branded filter on par with the Bosch Distance filter (right now anyway). To me, it just looks like a Bosch Premium/PureOne with a thicker can and baseplate. In any event, I'd only consider this filter for a super long OCI and I have no plans of running beyond my vehicle's recommend OCI for severe service.

Yeah, Im aware of that and quoted that price in the recent Honda OEM filter comparo discussion.. I was just quoting the average Kmart/AAP price.

The new Bosch seems like a fine quality filter, just out of my league pricewise.

13.50 or more for some. The Black box Bosch ones appear to be euro apps for cartridge filters. They are 6.99 and up.

I see you have the 14610, that is rated at 40micron from Purolator. was wondering if they are rating the bosch at the same spec or is down to the 20micron like the other p1's?

I just bought a Distance Plus to add to my collection, a 3312 for my Subaru. This thing is built like a tank and is very heavy, I'd say nearly twice that of a regular 3312. The can is very thick. The square-cut gasket is also lots thicker than a regular Purolator, more like what you see on a Wix or Champ, probably heavier.

Who knows if it's worth the $14 I paid for it, but I'll use it someday. I'm sure some of that goes to the unnecessary bling-bling clear plasic box it came in.

I checked the new Bosch with the Mobil 1 for my Focus and it is smaller in size. Not that means anything. I just won't pay $13 for a filter. I get the Mobil 1 filters with an oil special at AZ or AAP. $13 is too much for any filter.

The Bosch Distance Plus is expensive ... I think they have over priced it, and probably will not sell many compared to other high tier filters IMO.

I ended up exchanging it for a 3311 for my wife's Corolla. The heavier construction is not as noticable with this smaller filter but it is still apparent. Also, the gasket is the same size as the standard Bosch 3311 and Purolator L14476, not larger and thicker as I reported above.
