New in 2024: Continental VikingContact 8 Studless Winter Tire

me three except it likely wont be until fall 2026 now.. The elantra has had 100 miles since december 24th..
so the near end of useable winter life viking contact 7's( bought in 2019)
will likely go another year this would have been their 6th winter. (bought 11-2019)

Unless there is a deal then I'll replace them early.. because we will probably only have the car another 4-5 years so why not enjoy another set of new ones.
They are definitely hardening a little but still good traction. 6.5/32 depth.

I managed to get a set for my Mazda CX-30. They are made in Germany.

Now we need TyreReviews to test against others as well the other various test places.

Then the sale deals, service if needed decisions. My sons Forte will need new if we get them. It's in VA now and not sure how many trips back to NY he will do. He has 1 year old, low mileage TrueContact Tour on it currently. He also lives 1/2 mile from his job IF they would be open during a snow event.

Pilot will need new ones so VC8 strong contender along with X-ice Snow.

I will need for BMW next winter, not this one. Tiguan might need too. VC7 on Sequoia since November, so it will be 2-3yrs.
I think I might get them for BMW. I believe it will be an improvement over VC7.

I just ordered a set of VC8s for my Maverick from TireRack. I got 225/65R17s to put on the factory steelies. Continental has the $110 dollar mail in rebate going until the end of August. I noticed this tire has the new Severe Ice marker.

Do you know if these German manufactured tires in your order were hit with a 15% tariff/federal sales tax?

With the Continental Credit card (used only for tire purchases) it increases the rebate to $200.

Pricing out at Tire Rack for Pilot in stock size and upsized like my 3 season. I will need to check local shop as all will need installation either way

Stock- 245-60-18
VC8 = $587 for 4 after rebate
DM-V2 = $815
X-ice Snow = $932

Up sized- 265-60-18
VC8 = $640 after rebate
DM-V2 $921
X-ice snow - not showing available in that size at least currently at TR. Costco shows them for $1003 mounted.

Pretty sure on based with rebate factored in the VC8 will be on Pilot.

Just for laughs I checked DT for Nokian R5...... $1500 for 4 tires. 🤯

---------------------------------------

I also checked for my sons Forte as he will probably want new snows since his are shot, not sure on need. Unknown if his car or wife's Tucson when he comes up here to visit in winter.

VC8 not available in his size 195-65-15

That leaves X-ice snow or WS-90 difference of $5 per tire. I know @edyvw liked the WS-90's (not sure on DM-V2 for Pilot). My son will definitely see more dry/wet and probably highway than snow/ice on his car.

DM-V2 is old tire. It is 2015/16 model and it is same generation as WS80. It is good tire, but it ain't Continental or Michelin.
It starts deep, 13/32, but it wears like butter on hot plate. I had Michelin Latituted Xi2 on BMW X5 after DM-V2 and it was far better tire. It was better in rain, ice, packed snow. Only advantage DM-V2 had was deep snow and deep slush (not by a lot). By the time you hit 10,000 miles, Michelin is still 9/32, DM-V2 is below that. Take a long road trip, you can see how they are wearing out.
But the biggest issue with DM-V2 is lateral handling in ice. You hit the curve, and it is icy, slick-packed snow, and the tire holds it, no problem. Out of nowhere, without any progressive loss of traction, it loses grip. Other tires would start losing traction, and you could feel it and correct it. DM-V2 just suddenly loses it and requires much more correction than other tires. I had them again on VW Atlas few years back and it is same thing (could not get other tires in 235/65 R18).
I got Continental VikingContact7 on Sequoia last winter and had them on BMW 328 maybe 3-5yrs ago before WS90. WS90 is definitely a bit better in wet, which is a leap forward as Continental are really good in wet for winter tire (much better than DM-V2). However, I would give an advantage to Continental, which wears better and is generally a more civilized snow tire.
IMO, there is no brainer there. VC8 is your best bet!
