New firearm day! Taurus TX22

I ended up getting a variety of ammo. Everything ran well for the most part.

I did have a significant number of FTF from the 22 round mags but less (probably a third) with the 16 round mags. I shot around 150-200 rounds and it got better with use.
Those 22 rd. mags should loosen up a bit and reduce your FTFs significantly. Heard the same complaints from other users, especially when the magazines first hit the market.

You have discovered the joy of shooting with a .22. Fun and cheap. Still fosters development of fundamentals without high cost. I have the TX22, a Ruger 10/22, and my really fun tack driver, a S&W MP15-22 with Holosun and a Timney single stage 3lb.

Thanks! I noticed out of the 5 mags I have, some feed the ammo more smoothly and consistently pointed up while other result with some rounds getting horizontal and hitting the magazine before going into the feeding ramp.

Ive labeled the mags 1-5 and will test them at the range today.

Bought the Gen 2 Taurus TX22 TORO from KYGUNCO for $334 plus $25 FFL fees at my local dealer.

Came with 2x 22 round mags and 3x 16 round mags, plus a pretty cheap viridian green dot optic.

Took it home today to clean and lube and install the optic. Will buy ammo in the morning and head to the range for its first outting tomorrow!

this is my first .22lr so any advice on ammo, or anything else would be welcome!

How'd you sight in the Veridian green dot?

How'd you sight in the Veridian green dot?
Believe it or not, it was good to go right out of the box. That said, it's had to reinstall it, and I'll re check today. The gun was super accurate with iron sights, but the sights do not cowitness with the dot

Ordered a cheap OWB holster on Amazon not expecting much. This is a great holster. $19 and it feels excellent. Also, didn't realize it had a retention button, so you can't pull it out without knowing to press the button

Were the screws too long and interferring with the function of the gun?
No, I'm dumb and instead of using the original screws that came on the gun, I used the screws from viridian and they weren't the EXACT fitment. So I got about 50 rounds through before it got a little loose.

Since the battery is on the bottom, the dot started cutting in and out and that's when I noticed it was loose.

Gun range worker told me to put the original screws back on since they'll be a perfect fit, and he was right. So I put locktite and it's been since yesterday. So should be good to go today.

Nice pistol! Looks like it would be a barrel of fun! I love .22LR. My fav is a tiny Ruger LCP .22. It´s a little spit-fire.

I like the red dot set up you have on that, too!

Did 10 and 15 yards. I didn't feel like changing targets so I aimed for individual numbers.

No failure to feed on 2 of my magazines. They're super reliable. One magazines would not shoot reliably. The other 2 were like 2 out of 15 rounds would FTF.

Green dot was very nice, too. Very minimal adjustments needed.

That Veridian RFX11 green dot optic is $170 on Optics Planet and
$200 on Amazon.
Not really the El cheapo I thought it was.

Might be why it's so hard to get the deal at KY GUN Co. Looks like @Fa24wrx got lucky ;).
Have to wonder if the pricing was a mistake and while they honored some, they had to put an end to it. My understanding is there is very low margins on firearms and if the optic is $170-200 elsewhere, that combo should be $429 at retail (TX22 is around $259, as I recall, even more with optic cut, I'm sure).
Since the battery is on the bottom
That would be a deal-breaker for me. Have to re-sight it every time you change the battery ? No thanks.... Granted, I know the batteries last quite a while, but at the same time, I replace mine proactively vs waiting for it to start acting up. I will say, one of the laser sight bores I bought was really good and accurate. I used it to sight in at home but since I couldn't get the distance I wanted, I simply had to make slight elevation tweaks at the range.

I agree. That's why my EDC/CCW (SW Shield plus OR) has a side loading battery. That said, this is mainly a target shooting gun and not for duty. Another note, I re-installed this twice, and really didn't have to make much adjustments.

I think the TX22 T.O.R.O (their optic cut name) MSRP is like $369 or so, without the extra mags or the optic. I got a great deal to be sure.

What do you mean function of the gun?
The red dot for the RXM came with 2 sets of screws, 1 long, 1 short. I installed the longer ones to ensure a good purchase, but one of them would contact the extractor rod before being completely tightened down. The short one did fine and the gun functions perfectly. I read afterwards that others had the same issue and the gun would fail to extract.

Ah yea that's not a problem with this firearm

My local dealer is out of stock on the TORO model but has one with 5 mags for $269. Vance Outdoors.
That's a really good deal. Never had a handgun with an optic. I do have a Taurus PT92C with a laser mounted on the rail.
Seems there's plenty of aftermarket options for the magazines now too in all capacities.
