Never Change Oil - Delvac Challenge

I found this video on Youtube and if the rust is this bad it seems concerning.

This guy is an amazing mechanic. I know if I drove this rusted Prius into a mechanic near me they.wouldnt do this kind of job to it.

Personally with that amount of rust, I would have scrapped it.
Yeah unfortunately if you live up in the north east this is somewhat a common thing for vehicles over ten years old. Not unusual to have to replace subframes or find welded plates on frames. I undercoat all my vehicles with either fluid film or NH oil undercoating once, sometimes twice a year. It does help (some). I envy all the folks living down south that don’t have to work on this stuff. The guy in that video is great dealing with rust. He knows exactly what to do, and unfortunately I’m sure he is not able to charge extra labor for the time needed to remove some of those fasteners that he deals with every single day.

Quick update, just over 265,300 miles and the left rear strut mount snapped. She's in the shop now, I will find out by Wednesday if she can be repaired given the rust situation. Not that it can't be fixed, but it could be hella expensive as they determine what all components need to be replaced to make her right. I think 20 years and 265k miles counts as driving the wheels off, helluva run.

A short life for a 318
agreed.

My work van, I worked in with my stepdad was a 72 Ithink Dodge tradesman van, 318, 490k I think.... It used oil some, but we just kept it topped off, dont remember ever changing the oil. A hard life

Does the bolt just stick out from the frame or do I need to hit both sides?
I’m assuming you’re talking about where the bottom of the strut is attached? That is a nut on a welded stud to that dead axle frame. Just remove the nut.

The strut itself may be hard to remove from that stud, as the metal sleeve on the strut bushing loves to attach itself to that stud. I wouldn’t do that unless you know what you’re doing.
