Never Change Oil - Delvac Challenge

I have an update but not on this vehicle. The most miles Ive seen on a Toyota Prius was a very abused pharma delivery vehicle. It had 450,000 miles on it and it was not taken care of at all. It was such a toxic mess on the inside from abusive delivery drivers the pharma company hired a detail company to clean it up. At one point the Prius got into a severe accident and it was a total loss but the company negotiated with the auto body and got it repaired. They didnt want to let go of that Prius. It repaired well and was put on the road. No issues.

I got in an Uber which was a Prius with 350000 miles. The Prius ran fine no issues.

You can do your own google searches and find lots of examples of high miles abused Priuses. Im not sure which vehicle is more durable the 2011 Ford Crown Vic or the Toyota Prius.

So if you looking for a vehicle.to last over 300,000 miles with minimal maintenance look no further...Toyota Prius. Great for delivery, Ubering and college students.

The original poster is wrong in trying to test the limits of this Prius. It has at least 200,000 more miles of life. A car like this you keep going and use it.

Oh my gosh everyone life got in the way and I haven't been on BITOG in a while. Since last post I changed filter at 260k back in October 24 and have continued topping off. Between 252,000 and 260,000 I added about 3/4 of a quart and skipped a filter change as I injured my back. The drain plug has not come out since this began, ~31k miles ago.

I've recently moved to Georgia and the car just rolled over 263,000 miles...I drove it down here just this week. There is a bit of roughness on startup and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't bit nervous during the trip. However, I averaged 45mpg highway for what that's worth. Otherwise, I think I'm more concerned about the suspension than I am the drivetrain, it was making some strange noises on the way down.

I will keep the experiment going, but I think between oil burnoff and filter changes that may be all that's required for this particular engine. I'll take a picture of the odometer in the morning for you all. Lastly, I haven't gotten the Blackstone report done as promised so I do owe y'all that.

I very much agree with your assessment, you have to try to kill one of these things.

I know its fun to experiment, but you have to realize this vehicle probably has a least 250,000 miles to go. Vehicles are not cheap these days.

So its in your best interest to cancel the experiment and just change the oil according to the manual. If you kill the engine its a shame letting a good car go to waste. Even if you have the money the vehicle can be donated to a local church for them to use. There are charities and lower income folks who could use a vehicle like this one.

I can tell you exactly what Ive seen and know about the Prius. It probably has a life of a half million miles or more. It has more life than what you got on it.

As for the suspension...all suspensions eventually wear out so there are pieces you will have to replace eventually.

Assuming linear degredation of oil, your sump should average out to 20,000 mile oil at 1 quart per 5k miles. You've indicated it's actually burning less in your recent post. If you burned more, it would likely mean fresher average oil in the sump. Likely that oil burn will increase as the engine continues to wear due to the degredation of detergent pack, etc.

I do have concerns if the suspension will be reparable given the rust issues. I'll have it checked out soon and report back. Initially I was under the impression the rust was too bad but others here have voiced differing opinions, so I'll get a second opinion.
