"MY" Ultra Story

My local Pepboys got PU at $8.xx quart (Don’t remember .xx) I usually don't buy anything in there except RP filters but thought their oil prices are f... crazy even though I don't pay less than eight dollars for oil i use anyway.

I do, when theirs a sale that throws in a high quality filter.

WalMart has a huge display of Ultra here. But.. you never see a hole in the inventory nor anyone buying it at $28/5 qt container. Asked the stock guy. He says he has not yet replaced any on the shelf in a month! Hard to pay that $5 premium when Mobil 1 has kept my engine as clean as new in many vehicles well past the 100,000 mile mark.

When that stuff arrives in Canada it wouldn't surprise me to see it near $40 (or higher) for 5 quarts.

Also, Mobil was 'supposed' to start selling the AFE line of oils up here like a year ago. Nada so far.

I'm not sure we're going to see Ultra up here for a while - market is pretty saturated, and less people use it up he b/c it's a lot more expensive.

At nearly $50 a jug, no wonder this stuff is sitting on shelves, especially when across the boarder same jug goes for $28, if Ultra follows the same footsteps, they will have similar "success" as Edge. By now most Canadians figured out that we are being ripped off.

I think by October 1 when you start seeing API-SN and GF-5 on the labels, you will see ALL oils go up in price. By that time Ultra might be the low priced synthetic.

By Oct. 1st, I'm hoping to find some closeout prices for any oils(dino & syn), SM-GF/4 of course! This way the auto parts stores can make room for the new SN-GF/5. This is where I will buy up the shelves, just taking HUGE swipes from the shelf and letting them fall into the shopping carts, running to the checkout and getting home without being seen. These are the scores that I'm looking for.

By the way Johnny, nice score on that ULTRA!

Good find! For $4 bucks more than what I normally use MC5k, I would jump on that. It's well known that Mobil is the number one seller when it comes to oil so others are trying to catch up. I just wish MC5k was still $9

Pennzoil Ultra came and went at the Walmarts around here. You can still find 1 or 3 jugs on the shelf, but that may just be leftover from the first batch. I have not seen oil on clearance for a long time. I think they may use it for oil changes in their shop, or the employees buy it.

Meeting Honda HTO-06, GM4718M, and having Ferrari in their back pocket isn't enough?

I wonder if the Corvette rumors have any truth to them? It would be an impressive marketing coup for Pennzoil if true.

Factory fill on an AMERICAN made hotrod would do the trick. That is what gave Mobil 1 the jump start they needed, when it became factory in the Corvette.

I have absolutely no faith at all in that Corvette rumor. They are to deep in bed with Mobil 1 for that to happen.

I agree....

i still think PU is a great oil it's just so untested because it's new and being new with a price tag like that it's a hard seller for 99% of the public.

They took down the Pennzoil Ultra Display at my Wal-Mart, I talked with the manager there and he said it is not selling well, its a shame since it is a good oil.

Not true. Corvette signed with M1 A couple of months ago.

I agree with that. I say given time and by word of mouth from folks on here and so on sales will pick up on it. Honestly at $28 for 5 quarts I dont find it overly priced for what you get. The TBN is great and it seems to hold it well from early used oil analysis done so far.

Great find on the PU!!! I haven't had time this week to visit Walmart to see if anything good is on clearance.

A lot of the Wal-marts in my area don't carry Ultra, though everyone of them carry Mobil's multiple products. Mobil has built up a stellar record from decades of usage, they have great advertising, and all of the big names (with one exception---Ferrari) on their side.
