I bought a "Lights of America" bulb at Wal-Mart... took it home, and it appeared more blue than white. Well, OK. But then, it died in less than two months. Sigh.

I did take it back and got my money back. Still...

It would seem that LEDs are the best of all worlds. Super cheap to operate, and supposed to last 10 to 20 years. On the packaging, it stated that if you ran this bulb three hours a day, it would cost 16 cents annually to operate. I spent 10X that amount to drive back and forth from Wal-Mart.

So anyway, if you're looking to try something new... maybe wait until the technology settles out a bit. Early CFLs were [censored] as well.

Every Lights of America product I have ever bought has failed within 2 days of use. No joke.

Their LED "bulbs" are also far less bright than you would expect from a "40W replacement".

BTW, you bought the "cool white" one. If you want it to be more like an incandescent, get the warm white.

Yes, it was a 40W replacement, and was cool white (blue). It also did seem quite a bit dimmer than a 40W incandescent.

It was supposedly 40W of light for 1.5W. What I'd like is 200W of light for 6W. (Yes, I'm going to burn down the planet all by myself.) Oh, and it should last a little while....

Lights of America equals china. The lower east side, the bad part of china where there is no quality control. I bought three of there 100watt circline lamps with self contained ballasts and all the ballasts failed within 3 months, one even completely melted the ballast housing. Jink Junk Junk

Agree, all of the LoA florescent tubes we got failed twice as fast as the Philips and GE that are made in China.

Companies like LoA are the ones that give Made in America a bad reputation that isn't warranted.

The cfl's are getting better guys.

The old ones were huge, and wouldn't fit into most light housings.

They were slow to turn on, and dim as heck for a few minutes until they got warm.

I put those old style ones in my basement, where they won't see much action.

I bought a case of sylvania cfl's last year on ebay for about a dollar a bulb. They are 13 watts each, equal to a 60 watt bulb.

I use them in every bulb in the house, even the porch bulbs.

They work great, the only ones that are slow to warm up are the porch bulbs in freezing temperatures.

CFL's are the bomb.

these LoA LED bulbs look all right where you don't need much light, and need that miniscule amount focused on one area. Sucks about their life, though.

Yep, I have six outdoor lights, and used to replace them about one every month. I switched to CFL about 6 years ago, and only replaced one in that time.

I am personally quite fond of Feit brand CFL's, and I prefer their 5800K daylight tinted ones that you can get for $1 from Walmart, Lowes and Home Depot. They start instantly, although when they're cold they take a while to get up to maximum output. When warm they come on at near full strength.

I stocked up on CFL's when our Home Depot closed. Unfortunatly. they had switched to GE. The [censored] things take much longer to light than the never heard of thems they had before.

We still have a few fixtures incandescents work better in. My wife bought some GE's. The &^%$@#*&^%#$ things flicker. I replaced them with Great Value from Wal-Mart. I didn't check where they were made. It would be a shame if Chinese off brand ones were better than GE. GE light bulbs suck.
