Movie hunt

Maybe some one here can help me out.Several years ago I saw a dvd double feature disc,1 of the films was a sci-fi drama about a guy on a limited range courier ship who finds a stowaway that jeopardizes his humanitarian mission to a colony.I think it was based on a Hugo award winning story from the late 50's.,which is why I am interested in it. would like to see how bad/well it was adapted.

Any ideas?

the cold equations was the short story,it was in one of the ScFi Book club editions best of's way back in the 70's.I was a member for a number of years.Some of the books were good and some were I guess flavor of the month author's who turned out to be rather forgettable.
