just blew the 6v53 in my service truck , machine work and parts/fluids in in excess of 15k. now that hurts a guys pocket.

On a 2001 Windstar, needed a transmission rebuild and some other somewhat minor things to the tune of $3700.00 at my local mechanic. The funny part of the story, not that I was in the mood to laugh, is that when picked it up, the office was closed so we had to pay at the gas pumps but they only allow a credit card charge of $999.00 so the guy had to charge me $999.00, and then $999.00, and then $999.00 and then once more for the balance. By the time we got home, 10 minutes, our phone was ringing off the hook. Yup, Discover Card very concerned about the repeated, unusual activity! They actually would not process those charges until we validated their authenticity.

I paid 3.3K for a rebuilt transmission for my F-150 about a year out of warranty. That rebuilt one failed under warranty so got another one. So on 3rd transmission. They wouldn't even give me a loaner. When I asked for a loaner they literally laughed at me. So long Ford and Plaza Ford.

I think mine was about $1000 for BlendDoors in a Sienna. I really hate removing dashes, I didn't want to DIY it.

In early 2020, I paid $ 3,200 to a guy in Fort Mohave who was supposed know what he was doing for turbo and other work on my Jetta TDI. Bolts not tightened, no power. Less than a month later I paid $ 4,800 to someone in North Las Vegas to do the job right. The guy in North Las Vegas said he would testify if I wanted to sue the Fort Mohave guy.

For a single repair about $2500 for the transfer case on a 2008 BMW X3 that timed out on warranty but under the mileage limit. That car was the worst car we ever had pure garbage.

I was a poor kid who didnt know better, $900 to replace upper control arm bushings in a Blazer. Otherwise, tires. Oh wait I paid $1,200 to rebuild the transfer case as well in the same said Blazer. What a pile of Junk.

2008 BMW M5
I did the work, but paid almost $900 for the set of new OE radiator hoses. They were not leaking but 16 year old M car, I was trying to be proactive.

Not the most expensive by total dollar amount but likely the most expensive radiator hoses....
My 30 year old 150k mile Club Sport is still on its original radiator, water pump and coolant hoses (I did replace the thermostat and a heater hose fitting). It last saw the track in 2012 but I do plan to at least replace the hoses before my next long trip.

$1,300 for a harmonic balancer installation plus align the front end on a 2005 Corvette. I have been extremely lucky with my vehicles as far as repairs are concerned.
The most expensive repair I have ever needed was having the torque tube replaced on my Corvette. Up here that’s about a $10,000 repair bill because it is about a 16-20 hour job. Lucky for me that happened under warranty and cost me nothing. If it happens again I won’t get a dealer to replace it, I have a good friend who is a licensed mechanic and Corvette expert and works out of his home. He’s probably replaced 25 or 30 torque tubes and would be half the price of the dealerships
