More older trucks at work today.

We often get older stuff in for repairs. Here are 2 we got today. First is an 81 Chevy K30 dully with a 5.9 cummins and a 5 speed manual out of a wrecked dodge pickup.

The ford is a 70 F250 with a brutal 390. It has a nasty idle and a 5 speed manual also. Sounds like a funny car.

I made ac hoses on the Dodge a few months ago. The ac compressor blew up so the customer swapped it out and I recharged it again. The ford also got an ac recharge also. They must have dumped the refrigerant when they did the engine work.

in my opinion , older stuff is way better than todays trucks...that is if you want a truck that will do work ...todays trucks just have way to much gingerbread for me

Oh the Ford will need a water pump, cam will go flat, new exhaust.
But it won't need a $600 computer or injectors @ $175 a piece or a cat for $450.
Maybe repack the locking front hubs too. The old stuff always wins the further they roll down the road.
Won't talk about the Cummins conversion, that's just cheating! : )

True. Those trucks are common out here, back East they're in a field or a junkyard rusted away.

Cummins conversions are getting more common here, the engines are outliving the rusty Dodge trucks (mostly frames) they were put in, usually it's a 12 valve P-pump or VE pump.
 
Its the 80/20 rule of thumb where 80% of the air pollution is caused by 20% of the vehicles.
You can incent EVs, Hydrogen, Hybrid all you want, but where old vehicles don't die, you'll never get to your clean(er) air goals.
And the other practise of supplying gliders for Class 8 trucks is another "what are they thinking".
I was a fleet truck buyer for Class 3 to Class 8 trucks from 1995 to 2016 so I do understand emissions control systems and the painful changes through the years.
