I have an 02 Subaru Impreza WRX (2.0L Turbo) with 45k miles and have been using Mobil1 5w30 for a while now. I have to add about 2+ quarts over the 5000mi oci. Some of the other WRX owners seem to have the same problem with M1. The consensus is that M1 is one of the thinnest 5w30 oils you can get and just tends to burn off easier in our cars. My car is modified and dyno'd with about 50 more whp than stock.
While 2 quarts is not a lot, the consumption is not predictable. I can lose a quart in 1 week, or lose nothing in a month. I think it depends on how hard I'm driving. Also, a long trip of a straight 700 miles, lost me a full quart both times.
I've tried Valvoline 5w30 synthetic in the past and had a lot less consumption, but I don't believe its worth the cost. I also used Redline 5w30, but it was much worse than even the M1. I'm leaning towards either Mobil clean 7500 or Motorcraft synthetic blend 5w30. Opinions?
