My local Wal-Mart has the new Mobil Super Synthetic available in all the popular grades for $19 per jug, $5.97 per quart. The same as Quaker State Synthetic, which is obviously their target.

I am really surprised to see it. I really thought it would be as rare on the ground as the oil it replaced, Clean 7500.

Also, I noticed that they had stocked all of the Mobil Super products further down the aisle, separate from the Mobil 1 products, close to the Supertech section. A move to keep from cannibalizing the sales of the Mobil 1 line, and instead steal some budget-minded customers away from Supertech, QS and Motorcraft?

I'm really intrigued by this oil. A Mobil 1 for cheapskates like me?

I paid $13.00 for a jug of Super HM (Gray & Blue bottle) at WM.. which replaces the old MC 7500.

Sorry, I don't carry a camera around Wal-Mart. This photo will have to do.

Mobil Super High Mileage replaces Mobil Clean High Mileage, not Clean 7500. From the Mobil Oil web site:

Has Mobil Clean 7500 been discontinued? Is there a replacement for Mobil Clean 7500?

Mobil Clean 7500 has been discontinued, and we no longer offer a semi-synthetic product. However, we have introduced a new full synthetic, Mobil Super Synthetic...

Mobil's FAQ is quick to point out that if you want Dexos1, you need Mobil 1.

I read the link you posted and understand everything they said. However the back of the bottle says "Mobil Super High Mileage helps provide long engine life in vehicles with over 75,000 miles. The synthetic blend formulation contains seal conditioner to help prevent leaks and reduce oil consumption.

I can only imagine how many people will be using the Super thinking it is Mobil 1. Bad marketing, it will confuse 90% of the population. I think they should have left the product line-up alone.

I still can't quite believe any store is actually shelving it. How many kinds of synthetic does Mobil sell now? Six? Seven?

Most people usually buy by price. Some people always buy what's cheapest, some always reckon that the most expensive is the best. Obviously all of the major manufacturers want to have a product for each spot on the price continuum.

Yes, I am. Pep Boys has it on sale for $3.60/qt. Only place I can find it.

Just a little less good, for just a little less money.....

OK, I do not get it.

For those of us that spend winters in the mountains.... and -40 is possible..... Mobil 1 0W20 is quite a bit thinner (at -40) than the Super Synthetic 0W20, although both are similar at +40 and + 100C.

No doubt either would work well for most, but why??
Perhaps we could also mix the two half and half (tongue in cheek) and get another choice halfway between the two......not quite the best, but a little better than second best...lol.

I haven't seen it yet, but at $19 a jug, it directly targets Quaker State Ultimate Durability. I too am surprised it has shown up at Wally. Be interesting to see how long it sticks around as XOM is taking some risk (less discerning)consumers may choose it instead of M1.

IIRC, MC7500 showed up in qts. but never in the jugs at Wally, didn't last long. So, it seems XOM has made a commitment to MSSyn by introducing it in the best value jugs at Wally.

My Wally's got the Super dino oil, and no Super Synthetic oil. Then again, their auto section has gone downhill. They haven't had a single bottle of power steering fluid, brake cleaner or Super Tech Dex/Merc ATF in weeks, to name a few items they've been out of stock on.

A variety of synthetic product technologies exist, and we recognize that consumers have different needs. That’s why we now offer a wider range of synthetic product .

Mobil 1, our line of advanced full synthetics, uses the latest in additive and base oil technologies for ultimate performance. Mobil Super Synthetic is a full synthetic that uses synthetic-base oils and provides performance consistent with many synthetics in the market. Our Product Comparison Chart shows how these products differ.

I read this on there web page the super syn has group4 base oil in it[ PAO]but they say there non pao group 3 is better I dont rellly understand ?
