For the places you would typically use grease - which of the above greases do you prefer and why ?

depends on which grease, both Valvoline and Mobil produce many different models of grease for certain applications. as mentioned above go with the best price & or use a different brand of grease,

Well the Valvoline has approx 1% moly (unless they've changed) so I'd go with that.

The experts say you don't won't moly on u-joints. They say it makes the needles more likely to slip than roll. Having said that I asked the question here a while back and many said they have been using moly on u-joints forever 🤷‍♂️

I like Mobil 1 products, but their grease will consistently leak from my grease gun. Valvoline synpower does not.
Interesting. I was just about to order some. Possibly I will re-think that.

Bought the mobil one pink stuff once decades ago. Worst junk I have ever used, and it fractures or cleaves - and it is not stringy and tends to leave its intended place in a bearing shell - retreating to the hub reservoir. Maybe xom reformulated it since. As a professional I stay FAR AWAY from Mobil gear oil and grease.

That’s interesting - I’ll have to take a closer look . Previously I was a Lucas Red ‘N Tacky grease user but I thought Mobil 1 synthetic grease would be a step up in quality ?

Years ago I bought a 12pk of Mobilgrease XHP 222 on Amazon very cheap. I use it for mostly chassis lube, but I do notice it seeps blue oil, it like melts some. It however seems fine for ball joints and tie rods. I still have a few tubes of it. I also have liked Lucas red N tacky and the red Traveller brand grease.

I do have a tube of Mobil 1 Grease as it was recommended to me for cold applications, specifically my snowmobile spindles, from different powers ports forums.

Just about to run out of my tube of M1 pink grease and I was wondering if there’s something better. The pink stuff has worked well in my drive shaft and U-joints, and meets NGLI standards, but it is pretty leaky. I’m surprised on the negative reviews.

Mobil 1 grease is good if your grease seals function properly, yes it tends to separate due to the base oils reaction somewhat to the thickener used, this grease is great in small bearings though. If you can keep it in place. there are many other brands that perform better, certain applications may dictate use of this grease with good results.

I use the grey valvoline synthetic grease on my trailer bearings. It meets the "Ford spec" which makes me feel good. 😁
