I have an HPA compressor, and the piston section of this oiless compressor uses Renewal Lubricants Food Grade EP grease. The drive section consisting of a motor drive gear and large spur piston drive gear and connecting rod with roller bearings. Grease from the rod section tends to migrate to the piston, so I'm getting the moly grease they use at the factory everywhere.

I want to use one grease for it all, even if it requires more frequent maintenance. So would the same food grade RL grease, in a thinner grade, such as NLGI #0 work in the roller bearings and drive gears?

What do you lose using food grade greases?

I'm not sure if this can be purchased by a consumer, but our factory uses this: Anderol® SYNcom FG HiPerf 100

Food grade grease for Air compressors.

I found a good grease for this application. Chevron Open Gear Grease. I got it on Amazon for around $15 and it is like molasses, slow, stick and takes forever to run. The good thing is that it stays on the gears, and the excess will eventually run down to the bottom of the case cover and the gear picks it up again. It is a moly grease, so it also has that in case the boundary layer is gone.

Just in case anyone needs to lube gear drives, here's some pics of the Chevron Open Gear Grease. It stays put but run ooooh soooo sloooowly down and is then picked back up by the gears. In this application it is perfect. This is after 3 weeks of daily use and every tooth was covered with grease. You can see how little it takes to keep things moving smoothly.
