Mobil 1 ESP X4 0W-40

The spectrometer analysis for X3 and X4 are practically identical, I wonder what the difference between the two is. Could it be they just decided to get SP and A40 approvals on X3, and they just released the same oil under a new label?
Its not the same oil. Revision numbers are different which for mobil 1 oils indicates a different formula. The proof for that is all Mobil 1 Extended Performance viscosities have the same revision numbers, regular m1 same thing, truck and suv same thing, but x3 and x4 differ.

I agree, what is there not to like about it? It's a 3.8 HTHS 0W-40, meets Porsche/VW/MB specs, has impressive viscosity retention and very modern additive package.

Okay so I am confused. What is the difference between the Mobil 1 ESP X4 (0W-40) and the Mobil 1 C40 GT 0W40 lol

There is almost no observable difference. Speculation is that it is for compatibility with certain coatings that may be used in the GT engines.

You are good with ESP 5W30. If you track car, heavily tuned or your car is alcoholic, than that is different thing.
Or if you are not changing your own oil.
If you are paying $100 bucks to a shop, you wouls be saving money with moving to HPL and doubling your OCI

Math does not math there.
6qt of HPL is $92-102, depending on oil.
So, if the shop charges labor, that is not $100; that is $200 with HPL.
If you are DIY it is $100, but then, it is much less doing it on your own and using ESP.
All current VW approvals have 18,000mls OCI requirement. However, that is generally utilizing EU fuel, which is cleaner and of higher quality. They are perfectly fine here for at least 7,500mls OCI. 5K OCI is a consequence of cheap oil and OCD.

I know you like to contradict with me, but sometimes you are pushing it so much that i cannot even take it serious. I am wishing you a good time with your 18k mile OCIs with M1

I did not say there to do 18k OCI.
But 99% of drivers stick to recommended OCI, which is 10k.
The real reason why we cut OCI to 5k is price.
In EU, where 1ltr of ESP 5W30 is some $20, people really pay attention to recommended OCI. And OCI on many markets there is between 10-15k miles.
It is really hard to justify $16 per quart when you have oils like ESP so cheap in Walmart.

You know what, you are right. As a person who moved to US from EU, i can confirm that back home we all are living in large single family houses like people in the US does, so we have our nice garages where we are doing our own oil change so we get to choose the specific product to use. And we are all driving long distance every year as the land is vast and distances are far, so we dont change the oil by durstion but only by milage. And we are definitely buying our for $20 dollar a liter, or whatever online marketplace we can find them most overpriced.
And more importantly, manufacturers recommended oil change interval depends country to country.

I applaud your knowledge sir. We are lucky to have members like you who correct our perception of our daily lives

I am glad to provide some wisdom.

It’s the successor to X3. X4 is a C40 oil in reality. Porsche just decided to let it be tested against A40 probably because of dealers and logistics.
just read an explanation on Rennlist :

This has been covered in several other threads, mainly in the 718 & 991 forums. Our 2019 991.2 calls for C40 oil in the manual. Yet in 2019, C40 oil was not available in the USA, so Porsche dealers were using the A40 spec oil that they had in stock. Porsche issued an update to their "Approved Oil List" and made the back track for the 991.2 series vehicles saying A40 was "OK" to use. Next was the change in the C40 spec when Mobil went from ESP X3 to ESP X4. The ESP X4 has both the A40 & C40 Approvals, while the ESP X3 only has the C40 Approval. Then Porsche updated its Approval Oil list and the only oil that retained the C40 rating was the Mobil 1 0W-40 versions. The other oil manufacturers lost the C40 rating at that time.

There is too much history in this oil Approval debacle. Go review this thread in the 718 Forum
one observation though LM 4110 didnt loose the C40 approval as they claim only xclean motul did as we all know.
