The OLM on my 2015 civic typically runs around 11-11.5k miles until 0%. I've been using amsoil since changing out the factory fill. Unfortunately, amsoil is just too pricey considering I can get m1 ep and filter for around 45 Canadian (on sale). Can I confidently use EP until the OLM hits 0%?

Yes, and then some. Your OLM is designed for a worst case scenario, as opposed to M1 EP, which is more towards a best case scenario. Your OLM has no idea what oil is in the sump. M1 0w-20 EP is one of Mobil's best oils with a high PAO content. Use it with confidence and sleep easy.

*I agree - you could probably reset the OLM when it hits 0% and then run it down to 50% before changing the oil .

If your Civic is still under warranty if it's more cost effective to use the cheapest OEM recommended oil and change according to the OLM I would do this.

What made you think you could run Amsoil the distance? What does Honda run as the factory fill and the re commented oil.that should give you as guide as to what oil is the minimum quality needed.

I just wanted to run a high quality oil. However, lurking around here, it seemed like I was likely over paying given my oci. Half the price with no discernable advantage? I'll buy the discount ep and change it at 0% ( or so).

All honda says is run 0w20 , api certified and change filter every other oil change. Im very skeptical about conventional oil doing nearly 12k, let alone 24k on one filter.

Given the UOA's seen from similar engines, it is likely you could, with appropriate top-offs, run 2 OLM-spec'ed intervals.

You can run whatever specification is in your manual until 0% on the OLM with confidence as the OLM's are typically conservative. It's rare that this would be an issue unless we are talking about the 1.5T for example.

So while you are under warranty run any quality oil that meets the spec for the duration the OLM says. If you want to go longer in future that is when you can find another oil suited for that.
