g0t links? I'd like to read these results :)

Now he didn't say inferior to what ..but..

The orange can of doom can be compared to Mobil 1 5w30 if you use your standards. It's an inferior product where its inferiority doesn't manifest itself in the environment that it functions in.

You just need to apply a little boost once in a while. It's sorta like the "pulse" technique in message board thread hypermiling. This should be good for 3 or 4 more pages now.

elpolk and I both realized he inferred engine failure would occure sooner with Mobil 1 5w30 than other oils. elkpolk challenged him to prove that and I mearly stated my knowledge of the subject.

Lose the attitude, or you can have a vacation. This is not, I repeat not, one of those "in the gutter" brass knuckles sites where you can get away with such.

I'm well aware of the Seq IV thing. Old news. The oil retains its "quals" to this day. I also note that you're casting a hopelessly wide net. We all know that this isolated episode was certainly not representative of the whole product line (assuming it means anything at all in the long run). At any rate, it's not only totally unfair (both to XOM and to those who are trying to find some good info here) and invalid to cite this "issue" and draw conclusions about "Mobil-1" generally -- all twenty (20) or so varieties available in the US.

Don't be accusing others of ignorance until you've got every last one of your ducks in line.

Bleach is known to produce a tiny wear scar. Would you be willing to put bleach in your car? It won't come with all the API and ILSAC certs that Mobil 1 comes with though.

Are you serious? Referring ppl to a biased competitor's website? Those tests are Red Herring. The benefits of Mobil 1 5w30 clearly outweigh whatever those tests are showing if Mobil 1 5w30 is used by so many people who can't complain about it based on real world applications.

What would be even more odd is finding unbiased people that would look at it before saying that it was false/junk/irrelevant.

I think that, along with some foolish notion of entitlement to a given lifestyle, we've also been condition to hold polarized views. As though existence was some binary state ..either being ..or not.

Although consistant used oil analysis show the Mobil 1 5W30 spits iron higher than any other 5W30 is NOT definitive proof of it's poor performance, it is enough along with the camshaft wear test failure for me to be comfortable in saying it is relying on name and marketing heavily. Will it kill an engine. No. Neither will Warren Products oil but they don't charge over six bucks a qt. for it either.
As for Valvoline putting out biased info, I doubt it. Mobil wasted no time in trying to stick it to BP a while back over what is and what is not "synthetic" oil. You know full well they would have went after Ashland oil in a minute if they did not know themselves of the poor test results. Mobil has become very comfortable and lazy(my opinion) and other oils have surpassed them.

Twenty-nine years as a Marine here; I'll go hand-to-hand with you any day. Don't care whether or not you're trembling. This sort of "commentary" here is not tolerated, period. Have a nice vacation -- we'll start with thirty (30) days and see if you can behave yourself after that.

The guy I spoke with from the API wasn't sure why Ashland did what they did. I have a feeling that it had to do with a supply disruption from Katrina/Ike. XOM knows how to make a very good oil and I'm sure it clearly meets the Seq IVA requirements.

He's exercising jurist prudence in our abbreviated Law & Order scenario. There should always be a pathway to redemption.

Wow!

This is a website for members to treat each other with respect. I will not tolerate the bar room brawl attitude. I have permanently banned zddp77. I have a lot of respect for ekpolk and I am thankful that he is willing to share his time and knowledge with us.
