My rationale was, considering life expectancy being 75 years, the middle third is middle age, so 26-50 is middle age, senior after that. I didn't get much support as others wanted to associate with younger group where middle age group would start at 40.
Then I told them the joke about girl wishing she finally gets a job and moves out from parents as she's 36...
IMHO, it's mostly about level of mental and behavioral maturity that puts people into these groups.
If you live to 55 your life expectancy is 79
If you live to 62 your life expectancy is 81
If you live to 70, your life expectancy is 83
If you’re still alive at 75 you’re expected to live past 85
These are probably the most accurate numbers in the history of mankind for Americans
