Initial comments on a Takeya cold brew coffee maker, two quarts. About $33USD on Amazon, thousands of reviews, 4.6 stars.

Wife wanted a less acidic cold drink with caffeine. She decided to try cold brew coffee.

Picked this unit because of good rating/ reviews. Delivery on prime was two days.

Initial thoughts.

Get the two-quart unit, it is a lot of work to prepare and later clean this unit, the one-quart model would be a lot of effort per cup of coffee output

Unit takes two cups of course ground coffee and seven cups of water. Measuring cup is needed to use this unit

I didn’t have course coffee, so used fine ground coffee. Big mistake. I can see some grounds already escaped the filter, and I suspect fine grounds will reduce water flow through the grounds.

Takes 12-24 hours to cold brew after preprocessing. My gut is a four-quart model might be better, if one drinks a lot of cold brew.

Looks like same cleaning a French press takes. I always worry about coffee grounds reminanants being stuck in the drain. Of course, I remove the grounds and place directly in the garbage, but there are always remaining grounds that stick to the unit and must be washed off.

My gut- get a unit if available that uses a paper filter. This looks like a messy cleanup.

Thanks GON! For $33 it looks like its worth the try. I love cold brew but am getting tired of paying $6 per coffee.

Been using mine for the past 7 years and love it. I just started my cold brew "season" last month and have this thing constantly making coffee all summer. Coarse ground is highly recommended as you surmise, I dial in a 9 or 10 on my OXO grinder and it sheds very little. 24 hours in the fridge and it is done. Clean up isn't bad, just make sure to let the filter drain for a bit before you transfer it to the trash can or collection container (I save mine for the plants). Resulting coffee is smoother and way less acidic over hot brewed.

Maybe try America's test Kitchen on YouTube? They've been posting full episodes recently. Adam does an excellent job on testing equipment.

I got rid of my fancy brewer and now just make cold brew coffee in a regular glass canning jar.

Open jar, pour in coffee grounds, fill with cold water. Shake gently. Leave on counter for 24 to 48 hours. Strain through pour over filter. Done. Way less fuss and mess for exactly the same results.

Go easy with that cold brew coffee. Cut it with a lot of water or milk. It has ALL the caffeines in it.
