So, this is probably going to be the last warm weekend. I figured I'd change the oil ... but I am only at 4000 miles on it. 7500 will be the end of Feb and it will be warmer then. I certainly don't want to waste oil.

Car only has 27000 Miles on it. I commute to work with it (9 miles each way) and have the grille partially blocked to ensure that it comes fully up to temp. Every other week, I take a 150 mile round trip to my parents place.

Owners manual says 7500 on semi syn blend ... think it's safe? I have MC 5w-20 in it right now with the MC filter.

If Ford recommends it, I can't imagine it being bad. The Duratec 4s are usually pretty easy on oil and MC blend is a good oil.

I just got rid of a '99 Explorer that I ran MC synthetic blend 5w30 / MC filters in almost exclusively for about 5yrs/ approx 80k miles. I did my oil changes at 7500k( based on when the change oil light came on ). Granted, we did mostly highway miles (90% ) but the truck did not smoke or leak/burn an appreciable amount of oil during my ownership. Truck died due to overheating, but engine otherwise was in good shape. Mileage was around 19mpg throughout the 5yrs.

IMHO, you would be fine at 7500.

I can't talk my mom into 7500 on her 07 MKZ running MC 5w20 semi, MC filter. 5k was hard enough. While observations mean nothing, its one of the cleanest dip sticks I've ever seen at 5k. But she's probably right, semi's are 30% syn, so 5k is ok I guess.

I say try a UOA where you are now. make a decision from that.

I thought about that, but I could just change the oil for what a UOA costs.

If the car wasn't under warranty, I wouldn't have a problem going to 10k on a synthetic. I need to satisfy the warranty ...

Where did you find the info that semisyns/synblends are 30% synthetic? Some have rumored MC to be 60% synthetic due to the msds.

OP, 7.5K on MC is doable. There was a UOA on here not to long ago of a focus with a DI engine that had a great uoa.

Satisfying the warranty is 7500 by the book right? What is the dealer putting on your sticker? May be less. Take that with a grain of salt, they won't be promoting less service!
