Mazda RX9 - Hmmmm Literally - Pun Intended

That's a super cool idea and as a former owner of a '95 RX-7 that I raced in SCCA, I would be tempted to buy any new Mazda rotary powered car. But Mazda's been floating this concept car for what almost 10 years now. Just a teaser for folks like me.

However, what I would really like to see is Mazda making a high performance version of the Miata. It's already light and well balanced, one of the best handling cars in the world. All it needs is more power, like 50% to 100% more. A Wankel rotary engine could provide that power while being as light as the current 4-cylinder, so it wouldn't affect the car's perfect balance. I'm thinking a 300 HP, 9000 RPM, normally aspirated Wankel engine and a bigger rear differential ratio to compensate for the higher RPM range. That would be about 8 lbs. per HP and 0-60 in about 4 seconds. With the Miata's already awesome handling & agility.
