so my mom insist on having a pots line. she lost dial tone 2 weeks ago . i checked all the connection and pretty sure it outside. so i make an appt and they are week out. the day of i get a text saying they rescheduled. wasted half the day there. so today was the day they were supposed to come again. spent all day here and they never show up. i contact the chat and they say someone is working on it. i drive a 3 square block radius and there ain't no Century link truck or any kind of truck working on anything .

So frustrated i need to vent .LOL

Sounds like things haven't changed since I had them 15 years ago. Internet connection kept dropping out, I couldn't get them to fix it and I was under a 1 year contract. They wouldn't waive the early termination fee so I just paid it to get rid of them. Never again!

Wasn't there an article about one of the main providers that had like five techs for the whole /fill whichever half of the US here/ for anythng that was NOT fiber-related ?

Honestly, it's hard to say that they _weren't_ working on it. Could be an issue at the central office, dead copper in a neighborhood crossbox, etc.
ok if they get the service back tonight as the chat guy said it would , i will praise the heavens and apoligize to CL

~10 years ago, a fallen tree on a communications line (thick, multi-circuit), prompted me to call the "phone company".
What puzzled me was that that the pole numbers on either side of the fallen tree wasn't enough info.
They wanted house addresses which were very new to the region.

Recently widened 911 service was the reason houses got numbers. Very few have numbers on their homes to this day.

Given the inevitable cutting of the line, I went to the effort to ascertain the house numbers on both sides of the fallen tree by driving the long distances involved, knocking on doors and asking people for their house number.

When I called back, I was told they needed the pole numbers-which I hadn't memorized.

I mentioned this to guys on a power crew (right of way maintenance) and was told the phone company has deprioritized hard line phone maintenance. There are so few land lines left, it doesn't pay to support the legacy system.

Where (roughly) does Century Link serve?

@CarLuver Does your local utility company offer phone service? I ask because mine does, and they are the main competitor to Centurylink for land lines in my area. If this is available to your Mom, it might lead to much better service.

still no service. after wading through endless button pushing i finally got through to India. They said the line to the house was replaced . ummm no its not as i can see it as the pole 20 feet from the house. Also , when this service was put in the 80's , they did not use interface boxes and they jsut drilled a hole and fed it into a box inside the house . All they can do is make another appt for next week .

mom is old an she trust a pots service and has had service here for 45 years me i would have gotten rid of it long time ago. i think they are purposely making it difficult to get rid of her as pots service cost a lot for them to maintain .

@CarLuver
IN the past, I typically give a company one maybe two tries at a problem it typically involved internet issues at our other house with Spectrum. Then I dont bother anymore.

I simply fill out a complaint and Spectrum and their superiors would be falling over themselves contacting me and addressing the issue.
Ive used the FCC process a number of times when I wasnt getting the speed I was paying for and wow, the response from the internet provider was amazing. The FCC tracks consumer complaints so companies are very sensitive when the FCC hands down a complaint to them. It also involves paperwork for the company to notify how the issue was solved.

In your case it is phone line. Well, it only takes a couple minutes, fill out the form, stop calling the company. They will start calling you. :)
Here is the link for phone issues, go straight to and click on, "Start your complaint"

For anyone else reading this, here is the main page for other issues including if your internet speed is not what you are paying for.

They were also supposed to convert the wiring to a standard NID demarcation box on the outside of the house on any tech visit. This has been the rule for many years.

i don't ever recall her having any issues with her line in at least 30 years thus they never needed to come out so thus never upgraded . if they ever send someone out , i hope they do upgrade it .
